Title: Exactly What is Needed for R6 Shock Swap?
Post by: pliskin on July 17, 2012, 05:51:15 AM
I know an 2006 r6 shock will fit in a GS with a little grinding possibly. I've read here you also need some hardware to mount it up right. I looked back but can't find what extra hardware other than the shock is needed for a clean install. Does anyone have pics of what parts are needed.

Thanks

This may help a little, the bit about R6 shocks is at the bottom of that page.  But as far as specifics, I will allow someone else to chime in.

You need the R6 shock, lower mounting bolt, nut, and bolt collar. You can use the GS upper bolt. R6 hardware can be had at a dealer for $10-$15. Mine had to be ordered. Some users need to grind the swing arm, some don't. I did less than 1/8 inch for clearance. A worthwhile upgrade.

If you get the complete shock with the dog bones attached you will have all you need.
When I bought mine I got the lot. Its the sleeves and the bolts in the dog bones you require.

Almost everything R6 shock related can be found in this thread, from what fits to what doesn't, to whats worked for some and whats worked for others, what part numbers you'll need if required, torque settings, a sweet install video etc etc.  Spend 30 min and read all 4 pages  :thumb:
