Post by: Huff1371 on July 18, 2012, 09:30:29 AM
Anyone use them? Found one review on amazon with a GS . I'm thinking of geting a set as they are $66 on motorcycle superstore.

I'm not sure why anyone hasn't replied. I believe you pay for the quality not just a tire. I have a pirelli Sports Demon on the front and a BT-45 on the back. I got my pirelli for the price of my bt-45 becuase my mechanic ordered the wrong tire. He ordered me a BT-023 (radial) isn't of bias-ply. I know that with the pirelli, I can turn much easier. Going slow my front will turn smoother and faster. Its a complete difference to other tires.

Radial tires actually make turning easier to me but bias-ply are great too. I'll stick to my pirelli and bt-45 combo. I wouldn't mess around with inexpensive tires unless its a money situation and you plan on buying better ones later.

Ebay has some good tire deals too on new and used. I bought all my new ones from there as well. Also look on the for sale forum. You could buy a rim and tire for cheap too.

My oppinion stands. bite the bullet buy the better brand.

I would normally agree without a second thought but the normal price is $100 and they're apparently just a Yokohama with a different name. Somebody on here has to of at least tried them.

I have one on the rear of my Honda GL500 Silverwing. It's not a bad tire but you do feel the cheap rubber. There is no reassuring stickiness in tight corners. Do you remember that time when you were little and going down a big hill on your bicycle? Do you remember a
"Uh oh, I'm really going fast now...this is for REAL" feeling? That's how the Shinko's feel.

If was going to flick my GS around and have fun, I'd get the Pirelli every time. The extra money is worth the confidence. I'll know that they won't let go in a tight corner when I'm really leaning over.

On the other hand, if you're just going to tour with your GS and square the rear off, as I do with my GL, who cares?

You must mean the SR741?

My April 2011 issue of Motorcycle Consumer News has a 250cc sportbike comparo.  The all new  for 2011 CBR250R, the new for 08 Ninja 250R, and the ATK GT250R.  The Hyosung made Korean bikes will be sold under the ATK name here in the states now.

The CBR and the Ninja 250R came with IRC's RX-01 Roadwinners and the Korean made ATK came with the Shinko 740/741 tires.  The ATK data sheet Picks/Pans section includes under PANS "Front Shinko Tire gives poor grip, hurts handling."  In the write up they say a lot negative about the Shinkos handling and end up with "ditching the Shinko tires is the first improvement we'd make to the GT250R."

I was really surprised to see this but the only Shinko tire I've used is my current Podium 150/60 radial rear which meets my current needs, I like it's very round shape and the resulting fall in handling and it's worth it's bargain price to me but it's not equal to the current brand name supersports.  Quite a few are using the Podium radial tires on the EX/GS500 bikes now and seem pleased with them.  Remember a new set of tires seem very good compared to the ones you just took off, they still have a good shape to them compared to the worn out ones.

I run the Shinko Podiums on my Gs500 and my husband ran the Shinko's on his 97 600 Katana.   He is more of an aggresive rider than I am so I asked him for his option and he said he had no problems with turns, corners or curves, or running in the rain.

A lot of people use Shinko's and are completely happy with them ~ I would put a set on my bike tomorrow. There are other tires I 'like' more, but I don't know if I could actually tell the difference between them riding The Pace.

I run Shinkos on front & rear, and they've been fine. I can't compare to any other tire, since this is my first motorcycle, but they've held up great so far with 6000 miles on them. I've never had a sketchy situation in a corner, no slips in the rain, etc. I'd gladly run them again

I ran a set on my dual sport. But, they where 80/20 street/dirt. No problems with them. Sold the bike before I wore them out but they looked like they would wear good. I'd try a set on the GS.

My experience is that people who don't like Shinko's have never actually used them. The people that have tried them buy them BECAUSE they are looking for a bargain tire and aee not expecting them to be track-worthy in the first place. For regular riding and commuting 'basic' tires are all you need ~ I had a pair of 'crappy' LOL Tomahawk tires on my VFR800 which I rode two-up a lot and got 20,000 km out of the set. I could lean it over until the footpegs dragged without any drama ~ good enough in my books.
