On a 94 ....You can get the seat off without the cable via the rear inner fender. Remove the inner fender, then you can push the latch manually from the top side.

If you need .......I can take a picture of the latch ...so you can see where to push or pull.If you can't get it that is.

Ok pulled all under the tail off but can't get the side plastic off as it bolts onto the sub frame on the 08 an looks very unlikely that I'll be able to get at those from underneath, am thinking it will be a cheaper last resort than trying to force it off if I cut my plastic off around the bolt and do as you said am hoping another option pops up tho (yes please a photo of the mechanism or steps on how you popped yours would be great).

Nice to know i have fans  :icon_razz:

so go to the right side of your bike, your going to need 2 loooonnnggg screw drivers and a flashlight, if you have 2 people this should take about 1 minute, if you are on your own as your family watches (like me) it can take up to 30 minutes (mostly yelling at people to stop being lazy  :icon_twisted:) anyways, use the first driver to lift the seat up (CAUTION you have a 90% chance of ripping the fabric, don't worry its behind the staples anyways) the flashlight to look inside and the other screw drive to push the mechanism

Don't cut the plastic, then again my plastic broke  after i did this  :dunno_black: but seriously, you don't need to do that!

Ok cool will let you's know how I go I did try to wedge it up but couldn't find a leverage point that wasn't leaning against the plastics

Try the bolts that hold the plastic

Ok slipped a 2 inch wide rubber wheel between seat and plastic then attached pushy clutch to a wire popped it it the mechanism pulled the wheel out to release pressure on lock and seat then pulled and presto! Thanks guys
