Title: GS/Vulcan Bobber
Post by: backfold on July 20, 2012, 08:09:36 PM
Hello All, i just wanted to post up and show everybody the project i got myself into. Please let me know if there is anything i should check for or be aware off during the tare down and build up.

I found this incomplete project on Craigslist for 500$.... it came with a near complete 94 GS missing the rear body, seat, tank, top triple clamp, right hand controls and brake lever... but came with a 95 Vulcan 900 with a complete Fabbed up GS motor in place. The parts bike was apparently for things like the wiring harness to be taken off of and to have a extra power plant...

The vulcan bars was missing and the previous guy mocked up some home built 1 inch apes, they look great but Im trying to finish this on a minimal budget so Im up in the air about finish welding them and then trying to find controls to fit it and being able to plug and play with the GS harness.

I got some 7/8 bar risers that was for a Yamaha and they fit the factory GS bars and mount up [retty good on the vulcan triple tree but Im still missing the right hand controls (throttle grip, switches, brake res and brake lever). After placing the bars on Im still going to have to order a longer clutch cable and I have to have a front brake hose made.

If anybody has the right hand pieces Im missing let me know..... after I pull the harness, motor, speedo and tac Im going to be letting the rest of her go since I have no need for the chassis and assorted pieces so let me know if there is anything Im not going to need that you want. Im in Raleigh NC just incase there is any locals.

I was able to mount the seat and the clearance the rear Boat fender for the chain tonight. Next is to pull both motors carbs and then strip the GS.

well here is some pics of the tinker toy (my wifes name for the twins)...

So me and my boy got some wrenching time in on the GS500e......  and this is what is left!

I still got a tote with random parts in it like rear inner fender, brackets ec.

LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU NEED! especially if your in NC your can swing by and grab the roller!

NEXT week is ripping into both sets of carbs and then going over the twins (both motors) in and out to ensure no unforseen issues later
