Guys I recently bodged a gs500 speedo onto a zzr600. Works perfect, only problem is zzr has only done 37k miles when the speedo reads 60k. Can I open the face up and roll the numbers back manually?
Any idea how? cheers.
Decades ago before car speedos were made tamper proof there was a guy that went up and down auto row resetting odometers on used cars for dealers. He used a drill motor clamped to the speedo cable to turn the numbers up and over to the figure the dealer wanted. Think a variable speed one might work best to control what you're doing. That was back when used car dealers had a worse reputation than lawyers but not nearly as bad as congress currently has. :icon_lol:
looks like you're going to have to check the odometer exemption box on your title when you transfer!

Would you believe a mileage figure on a speedo that has obviously been tampered with or is non standard for the bike? :dunno_black:
I have got amongst my spares stash 5 GS5 speedos all with different readings, Someone who knows what they are doing can change one over without trace in about 15 minutes tops......so go figure.
Any clued-up buyer looking for a mileage figure will check the paperwork before the speedo, esp on a bike like the GS5.
Check out used motorcycle speedos on ebay and ask yourself why the ones carrying low mileage readings sell for far more than those with high readings :D
You can rotate the numbers on a gs with a pick through one of the holes in the back.

Turns out you can turn them back manually, but you remove the waterproof rubber seal, and behind that the metal face just clips on and it's bent over the back. use a screwdriver to prise it off the back and pull it off. Pull the speedo dial off, then unscrew the face. After that just roll the numbers back by hand. ;)
I have the original zzr clocks to prove mileage, also it will match up with the MOT slips. Probably at most a loss of about 400 odd miles unnaccounted for.
