Title: 2007 GS500F engine carnage HI RES PIX
Post by: weedahoe on August 04, 2012, 09:21:39 PM
For those that do not know, I bought an 07 F from another member here are few weeks back and sold my 94 E.

Well I knew the engine had issues as it was made aware in the for sale thread. Anyway, I thought I would share these pics since I pulled the engine out today and got it partially broken down. Im going to go to the machine shop Monday and see about them putting sleeves in the jug. At least that way I know I will be getting a good bore rather than not knowing what Im buying if I get a used jug. However, thats not to say a used jug is out of the question.

I know the bottom case will need to be replaced (it does have a hole in it afterall) but wont k now what else is damaged in it until tomorrow.

I would rather not drop $1K on a used engine if all this will need is a new jug, piston and lower case but well see.

Enjoy the pics.

What photos?
You need to host them on a site like photobucket or something?

I see all the pics just fine. They are hosted on my SkyDrive.

You can see them but nobody else can because they are on a secure server and not for public viewing

I'm working on it now. If nothing else I will chalk it up to education. I can get another engine for $1k off ebay but really don't wanna cough up a grand.

PO said he might have revved to high. Could simply be the rod bolts weren't torque good and eventually let go. I found several bolts on this bike that were hand tight when they should have been torqued

Here are some pics of everything disassembled.

http://sdrv.ms/MWXY0d

Needs a new lower case, single piston rod and piston, maybe can get the crank turned but if not I will have to replace it and either have one of the cylinders sleeved or replace the jugs (cylinder section)

time to price things out and see if its better to buy the parts or get another engine

Did I mention Im taking donations?

Ill go by the machine shop in the morning and see whats up.

I know they come as a pair and are two machined halves. But realistically, I priced everything last night and all my parts will cost around $500 or less. That's cheaper than $1000 for an engine unless you know some place better than me.

Well i9n his defense, check out this pic. I think the rod bearing froze. The crank definitely got hot. If he just broke the rod then it would have still rotated but I think it froze, got hot, broke free and did the damage

The oil level was fine when I got it but that means nothing.
