Title: Best replacement clutch for twisties and trackdays
Post by: Agno on August 06, 2012, 06:45:39 PM
I am looking to sort out the slipping clutch on my GS. I have no idea how old the current one is but at 37k miles I would bet it is the original clutch.

This bike has been modified mostly for twisties and the eventual trackday and also some general hooliganism.

Any suggestions on the brand/type I should be looking into?

I've only ever ridden on the stock, but I did abuse it pretty well. Short version, is that if you're worried about your clutch, you should inspect it, but it's probably fine.

The GS500 clutch is very over-built for our bikes. It's comparable to the clutch I have on my 1300, and should be good for way more HP than we put through it.

Its the same one onthe SV 650 also. only problem i've had with mine was the person before me put it back together wrong. other than that works great

Hey there I am also curious as to what some possibilities are our clutch. I have an 05 that has started to slip I've taken a quick minute to fidle with my adjustments and it is still slipping I know I need to fully take the time to inspect it and adjust the cable etc. I only have 18k on my bike but again I have no idea how the previous owner kept up with it. Is there any little tricks or checks I can do to inspect/ adjust my clutch beside the obvious?

Not that i know of you just take it off and look at the clutch plates and wear disks. Barett makes a good one, you can use a stock clutch and use SV springs if you want to make the pull stiffer.
