Title: Difference between E and F blocks
Post by: weedahoe on August 15, 2012, 08:59:11 PM
IDK if this has ever been discussed. Initially and a long time ago, I had bought a oil coolers and hoses to add to my 95/E and was educated with pics on why it wouldnt work.

With that being said, the bike I bought a few weeks back had a bad 07/F.

Member cbrfxr67 put in my hands a lower E block so while I had both out, I decided to take some pics and compare. Everything I measured with my machinist ruler and digital slide caliper shows them to be the exact same block for the internal components. Obviously the bolt holes all matched.

So other than the minor change for the oil cooler, they are the same.

Here are some pics

yah, the reason why it needs the cooler, I've heard tell, is not because the engine is different, but because the fairing makes the airflow different. So, needs more cooling to compensate?

That makes sense to me.

Wont be able to get rid of it. You will need to use it. No way I know of on how to bypass it nor would you want to.

Nice job on the comparative photography!  :thumb:

Especially on an aspect of our bikes that most of us never get to see.  I also appreciate the "spic-and-span" parts, and the effort that went into cleaning them.

Keep this set of photos around; they'll be good to add "circles and arrows" to in the future!
