congrats on your purchase.  Man, that with all the gear you just got, you gotta be in sweet agony waiting for spring.  I know it was 41 here in pgh the other day and i almost took the gs out but couldn't get past the snow mound in my driveway.

Congrats on the purchase.  The R6 is in my opinion the best styled 600 supersport out there.  What year is yours?

I'm also glad to hear you're keeping the GS.  Any special plans for it?

Adam

It was 43 this morning in State College, so I rode into work today.  Had to stay on the main roads though.. lots of snow melt in the 'hoods around town.  Of course I took the GS.  I'll wait until conditions are prime to get out on the R6 and get used to the MONSTER power curve difference  :thumb:

I agree  :)

Quote from: Adam RWhat year is yours?
Its an '01.  7k miles.  Stage 1 jet kit installed.  Micron slip on installed (sounds like a BEAST).  Fender eliminator.  Flush signals front n rear.  MA200 alarm (never thought I would buy a vehicle with an alarm in it).  Showroom condition.. really well taken care of.. I'm totally stoked :-D

Quote from: Adam RI'm also glad to hear you're keeping the GS. Any special plans for it?
For now... just to keep riding it like a bad monkey  :thumb: .  I was only able to afford the R6 because I sold my beloved Ranger 4x4 and took the 'truck of shame' that makes the rounds in my family... its useless in the snow, and the license plates read "POOKIE9"... how embarrasing   .  I'm gonna be pretty cash-strapped for a while now, but something tells me I won't mind so much come springtime

Hey kids.

I finally got my paws on a REAL digital camera, and I couldn't resist tossing up some higher res pics of my new beast.

Took her out for her first real ride yesterday when it got up to 50 here in PA.  It's an '01 with the original battery.  After sitting in the garage at ~45-50 degrees for three weeks, I had to jump the YZF with the GS   It handles great, but with the jetting and exhaust on her right now, there's no going below 5krmp.  Gets a little choppy below that, which is cool, cause the YZF eats revs for breakfast  ;)   Anyhow, it was mad fun, and I was pleased with the ergos too, no wrist discomfort or exhaustion after an hour of riding  :thumb:

I decided about a month or two ago that I would start keeping my ear to the ground for good deals, it being late in the season and all, and that if nothing good came along by springtime that I would buy a 600R.  About a week after I made this decision, an old student of mine posted his bike for sale on the motorcycle club listserve here at PSU.  I rode it a couple of times and did some research and realized that the R6 is a very reasonable second bike.. it is surprisingly tame below 6krpm, has pretty comfortable ergos, and is (IMHO) the best lookin' 600 out there.    and the best part is that it was cheap enough that I could afford to keep the GS!!!!   :thumb:

dmp221, yes, I have developed an acute case of MBS (multiple-bike-syndrome).  However, I have the cure..... CEW (chronic-empty-wallet-itis)  :nana:

Yea.... But that doesn't prevent you from looking for bikes that people will pay you to take away... Just kidding... I just have 2 that were free... I must be stoopid.
Cool.
Srinath.

at this point, I don't think I could afford to even take in a freebie.  After title, tags, registration, and.. of course... the state will want their tax on the book value, i'd be in the red :( .   As it is my garage is packed like a sardine can between my bikes and my roommates car.  I had to wake up my other roomie and get his girlfriend to move her cage this morning just so I could slip out on the bike.

Congrads on the new bike, I rode a friend's R6 a few months ago and it was sweet, it made my YZF600R feel like the fat ugly older sister it is. :)

Hey, at least you don't have SMBS (Serial Multiple Bike Syndrome) I have a chronic case of it. I've owned over a dozen motorcycles in the past 3 years!  7 at one time was the high water mark (currently at 4 & 2/3rds)..

I hear ya Srinath, I've gotten a few freebies too. I got a free XS1100 a few years back that I should have left where I found it. I bet that guy is still laughing about unloading that thing on me! It needed some major (read: expensive, even when buying used) parts and it would have cost $600-$800 just to collect the parts before I even put any time into it and even then it would still have been a rusty old XS. Been parting that one out - it's down to a rolling frame now and I'm thinkin it looks like a slick land speed bike...hhmmmm.

Then I got a free Hodaka dirt bike with a stripped kick shaft. Hadn't run in 20 years, but it's complete. Working on that one - split the cases, finally found a shaft, just have to re-assemble it and hope it runs.

Now I got the GS450. Planning on fixing it and giving it to my little bro for his birthday. If I can't get it running, I think my spare GS500 motor is gonna go in it. Anybody know if the electronics are compatible?  :dunno:

The real problem comes with the cars - got 4 of them too and only one runs. They REALLY take up space!

Good lookin' bike! Just be careful of second gear. Yamaha will not cover second gear under warranty. Have you checked out the R6 website, yet? What do they say?
Regarding the carburetion: Isn't it fuel injected?
Title: A list of my most recent Mods

the YZF-R6 got FI in 2003.  This one is carburated, its an '01.

I've never heard anything about any part of the Yamaha transmission not being covered under warranty, but its a moot point since this one's warranty has expired.  The two most common criticisms of the bike are twitchy steering and some tranny problems, but those comments are few and far-between.  A steering damper may be in order, but I'm not aggresive enough with my riding , at least not on cold pavement with cold tires  :nono:, to notice the difference

and one last pic folks... I finally got the last of my gear: Joe Rocket Stage 1 pants and phoenix shoes, so I am now ready to go down at 70mph..  :nono:  Of course, those of us in the NorthEast are painfully aware of why I took this pic sitting in the garage... it looks like winter may finally be upon us for real this time  :(

p.s....

I ordered the gear from KneeDraggers.com (http://www.kneedraggers.com) .  I've heard good things about them, and they were right.  My whole order was to my door in 8 days and their prices were really good.  Free shipping on the JoeRocket stuff, too.   :thumb:
