Title: Laced (spoked) rims to fit my GS500?
Post by: GS500Jonathan on August 22, 2012, 03:16:22 PM
Had a quick look but couldn't find any other posts about this but...
I am the very proud owner of a GS500e, but she is long overdue for an overhaul. Now I also have in mind buying myself some kind of Cafe racer, until this morning that is...
I now want to turn my GS into a Cafe racer, why not, it's reliable, fast enough for me and I think I can make it turn a few heads.
So my question is.. What spoked wheels can I find to fit my 1990 GS500 slingshot?
I read somewhere on here that maybe a late 70's GS750 will work on the back, but what about the front? Has anyone actually swopped the wheels out for laced yet? any tips or advice would be much appreciated, I will of course post pics when shes done.  :thumb:

from what i've seen, a "cafe" style GS can look very nice, or look like complete garbage.
this is the only one i've seen that I've liked (copied from another forum)

don't know of any wire wheels that fit... you're probably going to need to go custom.

To the OP:

While an early GS750 rear hub might work wonders, they are actually pretty rare. They went to mag wheels shortly after that, and stayed that way.

For the front wheel, find out what axle diameters will work with your front end (if that's what you are using). But then you would have to make custom spacers to center the wheel in the forks, probably a spacer made to line up the brake rotor, and then find a rim & spokes if you want to keep the 17" diameter wheel.

Be forewarned though, it is certainly not a cheap conversion..........

Sorry for the small pic. The big one was too big.
