I'm getting ready to install an R6 shock this weekend. Is there any other way to get that sucker in without taking the air box out and dropping it in form the top? I thought I remembered someone here found a way but I can't find it now. Sure would be nice if it could.

I know I installed my r6 shock from underneath
I've swapped shocks & stuff from below. Mainly replacing old shock with better one and knuckle with the cast aluminum one from 1989.
You have to un-do everything if done from below to get the shock out.Knuckle and dog bones are in the way. Then that is easier than removing everything from the top.
It is only undoing 2 more bolts down there if you go from below.
Yea, when I removed a Kat shock to put back stock it was from below. Never thought in my wildest dreams (some are wild!) that I would have to go in from the top.
If you have the bigger reservoir r6 shock and the California Model Bike, you will need to remove the charcoal canister. You can put it back but can't use the stock mounting.
Taking off the rear wheel will make it alot easier. I did not work that out until after I changed the shocks :cookoo:
Sweet, I was hoping it would fit it from underneath. Sadly my plans to install it this weekend have fallen trough. The bolt collar I ordered from the dealer came in and it was was the wrong one. I even took the shock in and showed them what I needed and they ordered the collar for the other end of the of the knuckle (front) instead of the rear where the shock bolts on. I was hoping I could just cut it a little shorter but no, they have different internal diameters and the bottom shock bolt will not fit through. Going to see if I can order one online and get it overnite.

Sorry, I'm an @$$hole, one of my "pet peeves".
You will need to use the r6 collar as well as an r6 lowing mounting bolt. the GS mounting bolt does Not fit the r6 collar.

I swapped the R6 shock this morning, I don't know why you are avoiding taking the airbox off, it makes it so much easier, especially with dry fitting several times to see if enough of the swinger is ground off enough to fit the shock. Also, I set all the settings on the R6 shock to 10 clicks out from seated.....anybody else have input on settings for this shock?
set gold to 12 clicks out, blue to 14 clicks out and the rebound at 6 clicks out
I emailed Dave moss from catalyst reaction he has a few videos on YouTube about setting bikes up etc. when I did my shock conversion I asked him.
