Title: Finally, I'm rider....almost!
Post by: Hughesy on September 04, 2012, 08:15:34 PM
Hi everyone.
Bought my GS500F yesterday! Wow, first bike ever!
Now I'm sitting at work, waiting for them to deliver it. They said this morning, but now this afternoon. This is hell!!
It's a crap, windy day so probably the universe is saying...."Take it easy, you've got your whole life to ride." ....stupid universe!
Anyway, I'm in Eltham and the Peninsula and can't wait to hook up with you guys on some rides.

Well, the bike finally came the next morning. Delivered to work. I rode it for the first time at lunch. Getting my head around the gears. It was good. Went a bit further afield and finished feeling good. Went out for dinner. Decided to ride the bike. Coped with The night riding ok. While sitting having dinner, the wind sprung up (gale force) and it started teaming with rain. I was disappointed, my wife was terrified. I thought to check the radar....nothing but blue and orange! Damn!I realized that I could't sit there all night so I took off and proceeded slowly, with my wife driving behind. I was happy to get home safely. I was wrapt with the bike's handling in the wet (in my inexperienced hands). It gave me a fair bit of confidence and was a very eventful first day's riding. The fact that there was no calamity certainly was more due to good luck than good management.
But I tell you what.....I love that bike!

Something I discovered......lifting the visor a little prevents fogging up but still allows protection from the elements.

Nice one, Hughesy.

There's a saying that (some) pilots use, which I think suits biking as well.

You start with a full bag of luck, and an empty bag of experience. They both drain / fill at different rates. The trick - if you can master it - is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

A sensible, cautious approach is always going to empty the luck bag more slowly, so it sounds as though you've got that part down.

Enjoy!

Great quote VDN!
I'm certainly going to be using that one.
