Inspired by the last page on this thread http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=61399.200;topicseen (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=61399.200;topicseen) thought I'd chuck this up. So how far and what does your daily commute consist of? Because of your job do you commute differently every day? For me it's a 67k round trip and is a 50/50 mix of highway and city, it's even got a couple decent corners on it so I can get a bit of a lean on, which makes going to work that little more bareable lol. I find it also good cause it keeps your skills sharp so on that weekend blast if something happens your more ready. What do the rest of you blokes do? And girls? I don't discriminate lol.
Short commute for me. Just 7 miles, all two-lane back roads. But back roads in SE Georgia are not particularly fun. Just one decreasing radius curve with bad pavement... Oh there is the curve that is a couple hundred yards from my work. It is after a right turn, WOT and I can exit the curve at 90mph. Gets leaned over pretty good there.
Once in a while I take the long way home with some nice gentle curves by the country club, but the speed limit is 35...
35 miles each way, uphill through the snow... LOL
It is 35 miles each way, mostly freeway or state highway. On the way in, there's a small very twisty road I love to blast through if it's light enough (I'm an early bird and on the road at 6:00).
I almost always go home a different route and vary that from time to time to keep fresh. Lots of GREAT country back roads around here in SE PA!

love country back roads!! .. jealous a little :icon_mrgreen:
but i have a solution to your terrain angle and vision problems ... its not really uphill each way! .. you just leaning too far back! .. lean forward a little and it will 'level out' :D .. and the 'snow' .. sheesh man!! .. clean that visor/sunglasses!? 8)
1900 feet each way :dunno_white:
22 miles down the 70MPH 417. WOT LOL. But, going to UCF was 37 miles one way 30 on the 417 goodness it can get boring in the morning.

Well, depending on which work place I start at my commute is between 86 and 92km Each way - 172km to 184km round trip (107 to 121 miles round trip). This is roughly 75%-80% highway in terms of time and distance. I ride this Daily.

15 miles each way through two lane roads for me. There is one winding road that can be fun if I catch it without too much traffic.
About 33 miles to the office by expressway & main roads. Evening commute varies, based on whether I have class and which campus my class is on.
~13 miles each way. Besides exiting my neighborhood and the last mile to work, I'm always on a 4 lane road. If I went a different route I'd have great fun on this one road, but it's a bit farther out of the way.
Mine's about 40 miles each way through fun Houston traffic on I-10. Two particular nasty spots I call gauntlet #1 and gauntlet #2, but it's not too bad. I usually miss the rush hour traffic at the hours I come in and go home. Fookin little gs ftw :rstar: :rstar: :rstar:
12 miles to work from the house...so about 24 miles round trip. Mixture of interstate and residential roads.
0.5 miles home to work.
0.85 miles work to gym
0.7 miles gym to home
Sometimes I get lost and find myself going around Alki beach. I guess it is a blond thing. So that ends up being anywhere from 4 to 15 miles for me to find my way home. I tried a GPS. All it does is continually say "Recalculating" or "When possible, make a U turn". It never tells me to go down the nice roads.
55 miles to work and 55 miles back....
Most of it conists of fun twisties and then around 20 minues of 75 on rt 101- =]
6 miles to work, all in town. I just about got taken out by someone changing lines without looking or signalling yesterday. First time in a long time I've flipped anyone the bird on the road (not my best moment, and quickly asked God for forgiveness on that one). I commute 2-3 days a week weather permitting on days when I don't have to pick up and drop off my son. I work at a large insurance company doing catastrophe risk management. Basically looking at how much risk the company has to hurricanes and earthquakes.

Find the "avoid highways" button. Start by using that.
Next find the "avoid boring roads" button.... ;)
About 3 miles to where I work today, about 4 most other days. All on the main roads of the little city of Monroe. Now if people here would only learn how to drive....
30 miles each way through hilly & curvy rural 55mph roads, lots of fun and I pretty much ride all year round.

Sod all, Zilch, Nuffink - I retired! :D
Well almost retired, doing a bit from home so the bike is pure pleasure.

im envious of those with longer commutes. if i wanted to lay out of work, i couldnt. id be spotted. would be like living across street from school and cutting class
Make friends with your neighbour, and go out over the back fence :woohoo:
if your neighbour is female ... offer to 'cut the grass' ;)
mow the lawn... trim the hedges...

thats how i get to work in that distance. driveway/road is a half mile give or take. so same trip would be 3/4 mile there. i walk out cut across yard, through/into woods, then up church drive onto road which goes directly there. or take the motorised bike when its up and running or the regular bike. no need for motorised vehicles really. home is a half mile from groceries, same for fuel. this is in a city without mass transit. unless one is disabled.
No more commuting for me. Service job so I drive from location to location in truck.
Once a month or so I get a midday break and grab the bike and go ride over and have lunch with my wife. A couple of times I took her bike and a change of clothes for her so she could ride home after work :)
