Title: GS500 Frame Drawing?
Post by: jpanichella on September 12, 2012, 09:05:37 PM
Hey Everybody,

Just wondering if anybody has a scan of a frame drawing from a factory manual, hopefully something with some dimensions.

Thanks!

Don't know what Jon is up to, but I would like to find one for a 3d model I am working on to play with fairing and tank designs.

Hah, well, right now I am actively seeking employment, so I can't buy a bike. But I'm an industrial designer and tinkerer and wouldn't mind sharpening my skills on a CAD model of the frame. Before this project I was in the process of converting a CB750 to run on lithium batteries before I graduated college and had to sell the project to another hobbyist, but I made a CAD model off a 2D drawing which was invaluable for testing out battery fitment.

Never seen an accurate dimensional drawing of the frame in any service manuals.......not really surprising as its not the sort of thing the average owner needs to know  :thumb:

Someone needs to stick one in a CMM  :D

Anyone have access to a laser scanner? Take in a frame and separate parts to be scanned.
Bet Suzuki has CAD drawings - if we could ever get someone to sneak them out.
Maybe there is one on one of the zillions of cad sites?

This site over here seems to have some sv650 stuff.

Dunno if that makes a good starting place or not.

If someone decides to do stuff from scratch, you might want to use the free google modeler.

Only the "pro" (non-free) version has exporting in various CAD formats. but for just sharing with others, the sketchup thing might be okay.

Interesting, good to know that nobody has really come across a drawing. My old CB750 manual had a drawing in it, with dimensions. It was detailed enough to "draw over" and make a pretty accurate CAD drawing.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. If anybody had the dimensions of the subframe from the tank back, that would be incredibly useful. Mostly just the width between the subframe rails (at the tank, at the rear fender brace), the dimension from the tank to where the subframe bends upward (and the overall dimension from the tank to the end of the subframe), and the dimension from the tank to the fender brace.

Thanks a ton everybody!
