Well, as said a couple months ago, I've traded my GS for a GSXR-1000. So I thought I'd stick around and post a build thread. (This forum is so much nicer than either of the GSXR forums) This may be a slow build, but winter is coming. I know I'm gonna want to play a little with the bike if I can't ride it.
Here's my bike. :)

My last mod I did with my GS was a projector retrofit. It came out amazing, and I'd love to do it to my Gixxer. Here's a pic of that.

Anyway, as of right now, I'm painting my Scorpion Tagma (Aftermarket) exhaust with high temperature VHT primer, paint, and clear coat. It's coming along very nicely. Here's a picture of where I'm at now. (Accept now, I'm re-priming the end cap on it because I messed it up the first time.) I'm not at all trying to black out the bike. I actually want to add some color or shine to it. But I hated the ugly welds on the exhaust pipe.

Pics of it on the bike extremely soon. I'm shooting for having it done by tomorrow 'cause I just wanna ride it! lol
Oh, yea... I leave you with this. While taking my exhaust off to paint it, I found this...

I guess a rodent wanted to make my exhaust system his home. Those are nuts. I tried pulling them out with pliers but that didn't work, so I just hit the ignition, and used the throttle. There was actually alot in there. Guess who's putting mouse traps in his shed. Or... chipmonk traps... idk. lol.
You'd be surprised how many other forums start thread flame wars over the stupidest sh!t. When I bought my current GS, the old forum was not very nice when I told them about it. Some people take things Soooo personally.
If you respect the members, your bike, and the road, you are always welcome here.
Keep us posted on the projects. I had a rodent or a bird make a nest in my helmet once....funny actually since it was turned upside down and I realized it when all of the leaves, twigs, and moss dumped out on my head when I put it on the next day. :cookoo:
Hell yea,....love me another build thread!
Did your exhaust smell like,....roasted nuts? And maybe I missed your posting elsewhere, but would you detail a comparison to the gs on riding? I'm always curious to what people say vs the gs.
Looks great and hope you'll keep posting your progress! Sub'd!

Yea. I moved from gsxr.com to gixxer.com because the people on there were so critical, and call you squid no matter what you do. It got annoying. Then the gixxer.com forum turned out to be no better.
Haha. Yea. I think I'm just gonna put a garage door in my living room wall, and park my bike in my living room. No more rodent problems. lol. Jk... even though I've always wanted to do that. maybe some day..

Haha. roasted nuts and gasoline. Since I didn't have the slip on on it, it gave more of a gas smell out. Until I thought of the whole back pressure thing, I got scared. It gave me a hard time when I was revving it, and then it stalled out. I started it again, and got the same result. I then realized that it really does need that back pressure, otherwise the engine puts out more exhaust than it takes air in. Wicked loud too without the muffler too. lol. My neighbors love me.
Yea, maybe I'll post the differences in the discussion forum tonight.
Thanks. :D
So this morning I realized that I missed a spot. oops. So, I put another layer of black, and then applied my last layer of clear coat.
Here's what it looked like before:

And here's what it looks like so far:

All that's left to do now is wait for it to dry, peal all the masking tape and plastic wrap off, cur it in the oven, and put it back on the bike. :D
I posted my comparison here: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=61924.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=61924.0)

Thanks. :D I love it so much. lol. Now all I have to do to it is swap out that carbon fiber sleeve on it with this alloy one.

Bike looking good man ;) I bet the sounds its roaring too rite..
Thank you :)
I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to do my headlight retrofit over the winter months. I think I might do angel eyes. Not sure though.
remove safety sticker!
That bike looks great!
I'm looking of moving up to a gixxer or something in the 600-750 bracket in the spring and have a question. What's the maintenence like on a super sport like yours? Is it much more involved, expensive, or frequent than GS maintenence? I don't want to buy something that takes a lot of expensive and frequent maintaining

Significantly higher maitence costs

Is it more frequent as well? If it's going to be too much I might start checking out SV650s and the like. I'm just in love with the look of the gixxers

i'm kind of curious about this as well, i've been looking at R1's and gixxers, but i havent decided on what to get yet, or when i'll get it since i want a cruiser as well, i'm not too worried about frequency or cost since i do all my own work, but i like to hear about it
Tires and fuel are the big ones I can think of. If i rode a GSXR as many kms as I do my GS I would be going through a set of tires a season. A GSXR 600 gets approximately half the fuel economy of a GS500. I imagine a 1000 is worse.
