Title: zoom-zoom-buzz buzz?
Post by: Jace009 on December 24, 2003, 09:42:13 AM
Hey all,

I just heard about this site and it's GREAT!!!

Second all here's my question...

On my GS it's vin number and production details have it labeled as a 93' however it is the metalic purple/white paint color combo...Could it be one of the early 94's when this paint combo was available?

Second thing, I'm looking for an after  market exhaust that I can put on my bike to give it a louder sound...Right now it has the stock pipe and it sounds like a giant bumble bee...I want to make it sound more agressive. Alls I could find is Vance & Hines sport system #er 12029 ...dosn't anyone else make exhaust kits for this bike? will a slip-on work with no welding the header to the pipe?

Thanks
Jason

Welcome to the site!

What month was it made? Anything made May and after for that year is considered next years model. However, Suzuki has been known to use up a spool of wire of the wrong color to complete a wiring harness, but I think that's on their older bikes (definitely before 1990).

yep-the VIN label marks the date of manufacture, not the model year. Possible yours is an early 94.

V&H is only aftermarket full system you can buy new but if you keep an eye out here and on ebay you might come across used systems made by Yoshimura, Hindle, Laser, and a few others. they've all stopped making the systems for the GS. maybe that might change now that Suzuki has the bike back in their lineup for 04.

Cobra only company making a true slip on for the gs as well and it sounds pretty good for only $150. many have "adapted" cans and midpipes from other bikes and installed them by cutting the exhaust pipe, slipping the midpipe over stocker just after the 2-1 collector but you're really on yoru own and venturing into uncharted territory with that method.

To be sure about the model year of your bike, check out my post (about halfway down) in the old Carb dissassembly question thread.  It tells you which year goes with the "suffix letter" on your ID plate.

hey thanks for all the help,

Does the engine case paint play a role in the bike's year? I only care about the year because of it's re-sale value...If it's a 93 with 13k miles i'm thrilled....if its a 94 w/ 13k miles i'm slightly less thrilled :-)

I will look at the vin number tomorrow....I think it's one of the last 93' models made but was sold in 94 as a "liquadation sale".....or atleast that's my logic...NOt that it matters cause I love it and it's all mine/paided for :)

I went exploring the site and loaded the VH pipe sound files...YA that's what i'm talking about..

Ottawa Canada? geez that's like 400miles north of me...I'm sudying down here at UMBC [universit of maryland in baltimore county]...But between semesters I have my internship with Catepilar [earth mover company]...so I guess you could say I never left the sand box...my toys just got bigger LOL
