Hey everyone. It has been a while since i have posted anything and I have found the majority of the discussions on the forum very informative.
Here is my problem. Ive been trying to find a part out list so I could have something to go by when parting out my bike. a long story short I knew the clutch cover gasket needed to be replaced and apparently sooner than later. I made it about 100km when i guess it lost all of its oil and started loosing power at highway speed with very loud knocking.
I got her back home (with a pick up truck) changed the oil filter and drained the maybe half a liter that was in it. I filled her up with fresh oil and hoped for the best but she was done for.
The bike will run but not well. I cant get the rpm's over 5k.
I'm looking to part her out seeing as i put on new rubbers and did the brakes last year.
If anyone has a part out list that they are willing to share with me that would be greatly appreciated.
My bike has 87,000kms on it
and if theres anything else that i should disclose please let me know
This isn't the end for your bike if want to put some money back into her. Engines are fairly readily had on eBay depending on your location. Year doesn't really matter for engine swaps as there are only minor changes. It sounds difficult but it's really more simple than some maintenance tasks on these bikes. With the help of this forum, you can have it back on the road.
I suggest this over a part out if you want to continue riding because it will be cheaper than any other road worthy bike and you will know the ends ands outs of your bike already.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of parting it out because of the high kilometers and the chance that the front end had been rebuilt by the previous owner. I had been looking through the cycle salvages in toronto and there isnt much for a gs500. I have not looked into ebay as of yet. Ill check that out. Thanks again!!
Yeah, Ive seen some really cheap engines on ebay in the last few weeks which kinda sucks because when I was looking for one, none were to be found. But after I bought one, then all the low priced ones starting showing up :(
You have to watch ebay carefully. Set up searches and have them email you when new items are listed.
Recently I got an engine for $205, set of gauges for $65, titled frame $200, pair if gray rims with nearly new Avon tires for like $125, complete 2006 wiring harness including stator, coils and ICU for $115..
Bargains are there - just watch and be patient. When no one is bidding, snatch it up at the last minute.
You also have to watch out for over priced parts. Those SUZUKI round emblems? $14 OEM. Some people sell them on ebay for $35. Rear fenders? Only $40 new OEM. Why buy used (unless it comes with turn signals and all reflectors for $40 or less)?
