I would really love for once to post something happy whenever I'm on this forum, but yet again my bike is collecting issues. I was driving about 5 minutes today when suddenly the bike started to sputter and die. tank is full. I started it up right away but then 2 minutes later the bike dies again. This time the battery ran out of juice so i had top push start it the third time...I kept the choke on this time and drove back home. made it home and let the bike run for 5 minutes to see if it would stall again. Took the bike for a spin just around my neighbourhood and low and behold it dies after 2 minutes..I pushed started it for the 4th time and just parked the bike at home. No idea whats going on but if anyone here has seen my other thread I've talkied about my right cylinder problem(not working, 30psi) and my no idle issue and bike runnig lean. I did change the spark plug on the left cylinder yesterday. Thats it.
What do y'all think
i will add that the carbs were cleaned last month
Try putting the petcock in prime when this happens. If the problem goes away, then you need to replace your petcock, and/or the vacuum line going to it.
Also make sure that your fuel valve on the tank mounted petcock is completely on. The slot should be facing straight up and down.
One last thing to check would be for vapor lock. Make sure your carb breather hose is clear and routed behind the airbox, or if you have a lunchbox filter, then somewhere else out of the wind. Also make sure that your tank cap vent is clear of gunk. You can check that by opening the tank when it dies and see if you hear a "whoosh" of air rushing into the tank.
If all that yields no fix, then adjust the float heights in the carbs.
i just emptied the float bowls...i drove for 10 minutes and it seems fine now. Will try and see again tonight. thanks
Maybe you had some debris in the float bowl that was affecting the float needle movement?
well whatever it was it looks to be fixed now...take care and thank you
This cannot be happening right now....I just tried starting my bike and it wouldn't kick....I even tried jumping it with my truck(didn't turn on the engine) and the bike wouldn't even start...All my dash lights are working by itself, headlights are a go....I tried bumping it and it wouldn't catch..I could hear that it wanted to turn....I'm guessing the battery has no juice after the cold night but now i have a feeling its the stator now...Since when does a bike not start with a jump start?
You didn't leave your petcock on prime all night did you? Make sure the airbox and cylinders are not flooded with gas.
no i didnt leave the bike on prime...however i may of left it on this morning since i had to run to school. How would i go about emptying out that gas? Do you think putting some starter fluid in the intake would help?
Take the spark plugs out see if the cylinders are flooded. Turn the engine by hand with the spark plug out and disconnected using a socket (19mm?) on the end of the rotor that is under the cover with 3 small bolts holding it.
thanks bomb squad, ill check that out when i get home. cheers
Goodluck with everything!
