Title: Audiobooks
Post by: BassWoW on September 28, 2012, 10:14:16 AM
I saw a post I think from Mary about listening to audiobooks on long rides..

Just wanted to personally say thank you! Today going into work in the pouring rain all geared up and an hour +1/2 ride. I listened to the hunger games book 1. Great way to pass time.

anyone got any recommendations on other audiobooks. I used to listen to music when I got on the bike.  8)

I don't listen to music when I ride.  Too distracting, and can't get the headphones to stay inside my ears.

I typically end up humming a tune to myself, or sing Christmas Songs.  "Oh X-Mas Tree, Oh X-Mas Tree...How lovely are your branches...."

The Game of Thrones books are good, too. A couple guys in my office said they were really good as far as audiobooks go.

Nothing quite like being alone with your own thoughts  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Am curious about these audio books. So tell me, how does a 300 or 400 page book get squished into a 90-120 minute audio version?

I don't think its quite 90 minutes....just book 1 of the hunger games is 11 hours 11 minutes long. Works for me! and its just like someone reading a book to you like you were a kid.

I've got a few Pimsluer's, a few Michel Thomas and a few FSI courses. - that is, full courses in a few languages. Great for commuting in the car  :thumb:

Inspired by the topic, I downloaded The Hunger Games - all three books, as PDF files - and have begun reading. Interesting so far.

The Hunger Games was a decent trilogy. It was compelling right up to the end of the third (final) book, where I felt the author was tired of writing and wrapped everything up just to be done with it.

Hey Bass, finished yet?

Read all three books. I agree with the end of book 3. It seems like after That scene, the author lost interest in writing more - or couldn't figure out how to end it. Wrote for a few pages, dragged it around for another few, and bam, finished.

Kinda reminded me of how Stars Wars ended way back when. A friggen medal ceremony with two droids coming out on stage and everyone laughing and no speaking WTF?

While reading IT, I got the impression King was just writing story cause he didn't know where to take it or how to end it. And in an interview with him later, I read he admitted to not knowing how to end it.
