I am considering looking at a bike for sale locally. The seller says that it was dropped, and since has not run because of gas in the magneto. I am a tinkerer, not an expert motorcycle mechanic, so I don't want a project that is over my head. I have read about carb floats causing too much fuel that overflows past the magneto cover, and also about worn crankcase seals. But with his claim that it started after dropping it, what do you think could have been damaged to cause this condition? Thanks!
Seems like an odd way to say there is gas in the crank case. And "magneto" is an odd way to say stator. But it is good that he didn't run it with gas in the oil. However, you should proceed with caution and consider it a non-running bike and pay accordingly. I don't know how being dropped would get gas in the engine. My guess is that the seller doesn't know, our is not telling the whole story.
Always keep this in mind: It pays to be circumspect about what the intended seller says to you - remember that they want your money, not the item.
He says he didn't run it. Sure he didn't. More like, I tried, messed something up, now and selling and pleading dumb.
