where are you?

if you're in Australia try www.thirdgear.com.au

http://www.thirdgear.com.au/products/Chrome-7%7B47%7D8%22-Handlebars-%252d-Drag-Bar.html

Just put some of these on my Bandit with some 2" ROX risers, so glad I did, much more comfortable position now.

Was considering them for the GS500 and have a spare set ready but the GS500 may be going unfortunately so they are shelved for now.  Wife wants to learn and while the GS500 is a LAMS bike, its still a bit too big for her, so downsizing it so somethign suitable for her that I can still commute on.

There are various flavors of OEM bars sold in 1989-1990 inthe USA and up through 2000 in Europe and down under.
You might consider those.
Here is a message thread all about them: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=59176.msg676469#msg676469

Photos of two of the flavors:

Tried fitting them while spending time in the man cave last night, they do not fit unfortunately (unless you use risers).  First they come down solid on the fork spring caps.  Then there is no room to mount the brake as the master cylinder is jammed into the upper fork area.  To cap it all off I must have loosened a wire as the bike wouldn't start this morning, so got to pull it all apart again and check the starter switch now. :technical:

Lucky the Bandit was sitting there just begging to be ridden. :D

If you can get clip ons, go for it, I reckon they are the pick.

Quite possible you blew the fuse through the front brake switch (seen it happen before). With things jammed down, the front brake wires can short to the frame and maybe not until you pull the brake. Check that wiring and your fuse.

I did check the fuse even though I knew it really couldn't be as I did have all lights functioning on the dash, headlight, tails etc etc.  Turned out to be an Occam's Razor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor) solution, nothing to do with the right side switches at all and everything to do with the left switching, in particular the clutch kill switch.  Whilst it can look and feel plugged in it can actually not be.  One of the mini female spades was jammed between the other female spade and the male spade.  So it looked and felt plugged in ie solid, but was not.  Pulling it off and replugging it fixed the problem.

OP. I have a pair of slightly used black drag bars I would let go for $20 shipped if you still want a set.

Ran them on my 04 until I converted it back for my wife to ride. Too Far of a reach for her, she's short.

if you are tall i would not reccomend drag bars. you just end up leaning on them and your hands get very sore

also

because you always have downward pressure on the bars? you can counter steer as good by simply pushing the handle forward

i am 6'1 this has been my experience

It just depends on how low you want the bars. I ran them without risers and really liked them, but then again I was coming from clip-ons.  They were a great in between. Not as bad on my wrists as clip-ons or clubmans, but still really aggressive.
