Title: Son of a B#%CH
Post by: Pontiackid73 on October 04, 2012, 12:21:19 PM
Well my bike has been making loud valve train noises after a long night of beating on it about a week back. So i decided it was time to check valve clearances. Low and behold it could not be that simple.

I have never seen a camshaft cap break by itself. Nothing else is wrong with the engine. everything works fine but i found this as i took off the valve cover.
The cam journals look fine as well.
My first solution is to pin and JBweld it. If that doesn't hold then I am exactly where I started in the first place.

Any Ideas for a fix short of buying a new head?

if you have alternate transportation, you could always order a new one from somewhere and put it on later. or find a salvage yard and see if they have any you can pull.

i wouldn't trust jb welding it, especially with cams.

Your just asking to gouge the cam if you JB weld it. The big question is are the cam caps proprietary like the case or are they a get one if ya need one kinda deal.

The cam caps are line-bored with the head. I've heard plenty of success stories from people replacing them with salvage parts... Probably worth a shot, you don't have much to lose.

Hate it when a seemingly simple job gets complicated with crap you discover.  Suppose its better to discover it the good way than the bad way though.

Im really debating weather or not its worth it to me to fix it. I bought the bike cheap and if i have to put over half what i paid into it I think i may just get rid of it.
