Title: Let a friend ride my bike.......... Whoops!
Post by: Beemersworld on October 04, 2012, 07:23:03 PM
So I let a great friend ride the bike around the Parking lot and He laid it down.  It slid for bout 10 ft and broke the brake lever, bar end and broke the turn signal and  cracked the right side cover.  It still starts and runs and  doesnt seem to be leaking or anything.  Is there anything to look for to make sure its ok??

And if anyone has the Cover and the turn signal lying around Please let me know,  I can get a lever and bar ends locally very cheaply.

Yeah, they are OEM but IDK what the 01s look like. The 04+ mounted through the front fairing.

2001+ rear turn signals are the same.

The front lens part is the same on all. However the fronts on 2001-2002 have longer stalks than 2004+ because they mount on the headlight bracket as in the 89-00 models. The stalks on the 2004+ fronts are the same short length as the rear.

If the flasher part is broken and the stalk is good, you should be able to get a short one and swap the flasher end onto the longer stalk.

Here you can see the stalks are longer:

And here you can see the shorter length of the rear, which is identical to the front ones on the 2004+ models which mount on the fairing.

Tragic. Treat your bike like your woman. You wouldn't let your friend take her for a ride would you? Swinging, different story.  O0

If I had a BMW S1K or any supersport, I wouldn't let my friend on it if he was new, but my GS? It's a perfect learning bike, great for parking lot maneuvers. I'd always let a buddy borrow it.

Don't sweat it beemer, at least your friend is ok (I'm assuming?). You can always replace bike parts, and you'll definitely find them here.

So the lever is $35 for just the one locally.  That aint happening!   Ill get the carbon fiber ones on ebay for like 15 for the pair.   Anyone with a cover?    UGH!!!

MotionPro has a high quality adjustable brake lever for like $25 and clutch lever for like $9.

I believe most of us that have had the fake-carbon look levers in out hands found that the plastic coating will peel off and they yo have to replace them again. real carbon fiber looks good. The fake stuff used on the levers is like imitation plastic.

I don't let my friends touch my gs, because that's all I have. If it gets damaged, I know they can't pay for it, and I sure as shat can't either

I've average about 2 post a week. Been riding but it's starting to get cold here in the midwest. So it might be time for a new build.  :thumb:
