Title: Wanted: Taller euro style clip on bar holders.
Post by: 89500inPA on October 08, 2012, 01:53:43 PM
I have 89' OEM USA style, looking for type 2 or type 1 taller Euro style set. (In preference order)

I do have sets of the tall ones. Do you need the complete set of 2 clips, 2 bars and top plate?
(I have no spare sets of the shorter ones Type-1)

I think all I need in the bar holders if I have an 89 bike, is that correct? I think I want the taller ones as after my hour commute my wrists are a bit sore.

You can get by with just the clips.
You will have to file a 2nd notch in the clip end of the bars as both screws pass the bar where on the 89's only one screw actually passes against the bar. That's easy to do.
Then the index holes for the controls will need to be rotated a little. That's also easy to do.

I have 5 sets of the tall clips and plenty of bars. I could swap you or sell you a set of clips and bars (bars to save you the work of modifying them).

Out of curiosity, how much would you charge for a set of tall clips, bars, and the triple top?

The unfortunate thing is I don't have much supply of crappy parts. I was going through them last night. Bent bars, rusted ones or ones with broken screws are all relegated to the scrap pile (though they make good breaker bars to extend your socket wrench handle).

I'll put sets together.  Probably in the area of $125-$150 for a set depending on how pristine the bars are (yes - I do have a pile of brand new bars! Lucky find I guess.) I always try to include new SS screws in a set and the correct triple mounting bolts (shallower head compared to standard bars.)

I don't like to sell crap. (Though I do sometimes give away the crap I can't sell or use or to help a starving student fix his bike).

If you only need the tall clips, I have a couple sets for $25. I think one set needs repainting - that might be $24.

I'll keep that in mind if I become in the market for a set.  I might get tired of my current bars when I get my custom seat done.
