Title: Another good reason to wear gloves when riding
Post by: kininja on October 15, 2012, 02:04:56 PM
Another good reason to wear gloves when riding, besides the obvious, is that dogs can bite and every dog I see seems to hate motorcycles.

Often times I'll have to run to my boss's house to help out with computer issues or some random errand. He keeps his cow dog Toby on the property. Reportedly, this dog will help out on the ranch and keep cattle in line. Any cows that wander from the pack will end up with Toby all over them, sometimes literally: the dog has been known to jump up, bite the ear of a cow, and hang off of that ear completely suspended in the air. I'm told it's a bloody mess.

When I stop by the house, sometimes I'll just park at the end of the driveway, or coast in the rest of the drive way with the engine off, which seems to keep Toby calmer for whatever reason. As soon as I get off the bike and get my helmet off, the dog loves me.

One time recently, while I was cruising into the driveway with my engine on, he lept up and bit my throttle hand. Luckily I had some Cortech gloves on and I don't think he bit as hard as he could have.

I would never kicked a dog...unless it bit me and potentials scratched my fairing or caused me to crash.
