Title: stupid pants question
Post by: zoltan on December 28, 2003, 09:05:57 AM
with pants with armor, do you want the armor to be in the correct position when you're standing straight, or when you're sitting on the bike?

I would say sitting on the bike.  Just my thoughts though!

Neither....you want the armour in the correct position when you hit the asphalt.

ok, so what position are you most likely to hit pavement in? with your knee bent or with your knee straight?

Seriously, I would like to know too. The padding on my textile trousers sits just below my knee cap, when I am standing. Is this right?

ok, seriously... I've thought a bit about this, too. Especially since I just ordered my first pair of true riding pants.

My humble, uninformed intellect tells me that you want the best pad position with about a 75 to 90 degree knee bend.  I've never fallen before when I hit the ground with my legs straight.  Even if I did, then I'd need armor the lenth of my leg, not just on my knee, because I'd be doing a belly-flop, right?  Patellas get broken and knees get injured when they are the point of impact, and they are the point of impact when the knee is bent.

by the time you are straightened out and sliding, impact is over (hopefully).  Go to www.uponone.com or a similar site and watch some of the crash videos I'll be that you'll see alot of bent/flailing limbs  ;)

its funny, you can tell how much skin is showing in the pics at uponone; not by the thumbnail, but by how many times its been viewed  :P

I'd have to say right now the most amazing video on the site is in the 'speed' section.  Its a tank cam on an R1 doing 190mph, and a 'busa passes him like he's standing still ... amazing.
