I have a 97 gs500. I just bought it and I'm going through the carb. It looks like the previous owner took a hammer or something to the butterfly valves. The only thing I can think of is that the carb was froze and they taped on them to break it loose. They are not damaged bad. The top of the valves and barely bent, but its not really bad. From what I have been told at the suzuki place, I cannot buy the valves without having to buy the entire carb. Have any of you every had to deal with a problem like this? Do you think I could maybe take the valves out and lay them on a flat surface and try to flatten them some? If not have you ever seem them sold separate?
The bike will crank and run. It seems to be getting to much gas. This is my first carb rebuild so any advice would be much appreciated.
On a side note.. how do you attach pics on the forum?

Dealership is probably right. I would remove them and re-flatten them in a press... a large bench vise between a couple metal bars might suffice. Can't remember if these have holes in them for air passage when closed but you'll want to make sure that they stay the same diameter. Lightly deburr edges and faces when done.
Otherwise see if someone will sell you a pair off a set of parts carbs.
Use small-fastener Loctite when re-installing the screws that hold these in place... you don't want those screws in the engine.
