Title: Down for winter GRRRR.
Post by: GSF500 on October 31, 2012, 10:54:49 AM
Looks like i'm down for 6 months +, I  broke my bicept tendon right arm and here I sit. I had big plans for the GS this winter ( new tires, sprockets, chain, brake pads, exhaust, rejet, front springs, rear shock) :2guns: Everything just sitting in the garage. I really miss riding. Anyway, I have alot of time to read up on post and see what everyone else is doing to there GS. Hope all is well with everyone here and be safe...

Sorry to hear about that...

At least you have time to prepare for the spring.  As you get better I'm sure you can do little stuff like rejet.  Not too much effort on the bicep tendon I recon...

Did you break it riding or another way?

Too bad on that one.

It can make a difference what doctor you see (and what is available in your area).

When I broke an achilles tendon (impact with steel object, not a tear from stressing it) 2 doctors said 6 weeks in a cast then slow therapy.

A friend suggested the University of Washington Sports Clinic. The bad news there was the doctor said "You'll probably be too sore to go back to the gym for the first week after surgery". DUH? Back in the gym in a week? 2 plastic cast boots: one to get sweaty for exercise and one to keep clean and dry. I was out of the boot and back on Suzi in only 5 weeks.

I found there is a difference between:
1. Doctors paid by insurance per patient .vs. salaried ones at UW who get paid the same no matter how much time they need to spend with you
2. Doctors who go "that's the way we do it" .vs. doctors who know you need to get back in business asap

When at Iowa State on the gymnastics team, one guy (our best ring man) tore the bicep. He was back in the gym in not much over a month. Back on the rings at full power in less than 6 months. Again: sports doctors!
