Anyone wanna trade me an 89-02 head fro an 04+ head???
or sell me an 89-02 head for $100 shipped to 70118? Ready to trade or buy right now.
See if you have any takers first.
I have an older engine but have not removed the head to see what the valves are like. It was in a parts buy - had a trashed timing rotor pin due to a drop. I'll pull the head this week and see how it looks. On all my builds, I'm going 2006+ wiring so I'm collecting electronic tach's and won't need any mechanical tach stuff - heads or tachs.
Willing to trade.
awesome. Keep me updated!
hey adidasguy, something tells me no one else is gonna bite on the trade. I've got the head, journal caps, buckets/shims cam shafts, valve cover and i think all the bolts that go with it. Want me to box it up and stick your address on it?
I have to take off the head first to see what the valves look like.
Right. Should I check the valves on this one too/how do I do that? its an 04.
I was going to remove the head. Then rotate the cam to open the valve and visually look at it to see if all looks OK. Any chips or pitting around the valve seat would not be good.
Other choice would be to use an electronic tach with the 2004 head. I'll inventory how many I have.
yea i've thought about switching over, but i just can't afford it. that's why i'm trying to trade heads, I have no more $$$ for large investments. (large to me is >$30)
Took off the head.
One the plus side, the valves all look OK.
On the negative, when I went to screw back in the cam caps, I found a couple bolts had been heli-coiled.
If you want to fix those, you can have it for postage. Otherwise I figure the head will be scrap.
Are the helicoiled bolts damaged or something?
It appears some of the bolt holes were stripped then helicoils inserted. When I went to put the bolts in and wondered why one wouldn't easily screw in, this springy looking thingy pulled out of the bolt hole for the cam cap bolt.
I kind of think half were helicoiled.
My feeling is too much bother unless you've done this type of work before. $50-$75 for a good electronic tach to go with your newer head would be a better choice.

Hey,
I got the older head send me another e-mail to chat.
Mary
thanks for all the help adidasguy, but I'll pass, emailing/pming you Mary
I agree that this head is best taken to recycling and get a few dollars for it.
Valves look really clean - maybe I'll pull them and save them.

89-00 head I have, man $100 is what I paid to cut new seats and a 3 angle valve job.
I saw this post and decided not to intervene ...
Worse yet, it is probably near impossible to find in the tornado rearranged mess I call a garage.
Cool.
Buddha.
so would you be willing to sell it to me for $100 shipped to 70118?
