Title: Suzuki's New Cruiser?
Post by: mister on November 07, 2012, 12:35:04 PM
Just came across it... the Boulevard S40 a single cylinder 650...

Wouldn't mind taking one for a spin. Only a 10 litre (roughly 2.5 gallon) tank though, but a claimed 60+mpg.

Originally called Savage LS650 it was renamed Boulevard S40 when all Suzuki cruisers were given the Boulevard name.  It's been around for decades virtually unchanged except for colors and a tranny gear that was added years ago, 4 speed upped to 5.

Picture of a 1986 Boulevard S40 aka Savage LS650 posted by a rider in Toowoomba Australia:

New? ... I thought this model has been out for some time.  Basically just the savage, with slight updates...
I could swear that the thumper in my neighbor's garage is an S40...  its an '05 with 452 miles on it... I know its a boulevard single cylinder 650, am I imagining the S40 written on it? Cause it wouldn't be the first time! She offered to let me ride it, but I had had a beer the day she offered... I won't even ride my own after a single drink let alone, then add that it is someone else's mint condition bike.. I don't think so!

As I said *I* just came across it. Sorry for the Americans who have had this thing since Moses played fullback for Jerusalem. It's not a model available in Australia. So it's New To Me.

Reminds me of a Virago shape. Mirrors look nice  ;)

Owned one since 1996, like the month before the re introduced it. Owned 6, own 2-3 right now ...

They handle like an overloaded wheel barrow ... comepletely belieng its tiny size ... thank the "looks over function" crowd for that. The triples have a 2.5" offset ... PITA. Compare tha tto under 1" for the GS.

Anyway its a great bike to chop, can turn into a quicker steering bike if you take out that offset, inspite of adding 10 degrees to the rake ...

And australia also got a 400 version, though the belt drive of the 650 is far better IMHO.
Cool.

Mister, I know you aren't into modifying bikes much, but have a look at this:

All based on the S40......

Big rich ... I think you can do 100 times better a job than that for 1/10 that price tag ...
The taller shock in the back is a complete worthless idea ... tears up your belt by hitting it against the pivot ...
Too many problems, but yes it does look damn damn good though.
Cool.

Yup, chopper -

I however dont like cafe'ing it. Bikes that start as "standard" make better cae's IMHO, like a GS450 etc.
