Title: Blue led in high beam indicator
Post by: Loki76 on November 08, 2012, 10:08:07 PM
I've lost my high beam indicator lens, if I put a blue led in there would I have much problem with water getting into the socket?  I have a green lens on there now but it annoys me, looks wrong.

i went to the Bike Cave and got out the box of LEDS and spare gauge brackets.

You can put in a blue LED and leave the green cap on. When off, of course it is dark green. When on, it will be blue with a slight teal cast to it.

I would not leave the cap off. There is no place for water to go once it gets in there. So go blue LED and keep the green cap on there. I'm out of spare blue caps at the moment. Sold my only spare a week ago.

2004+ use a t-5 wedge base.

To go all LED, you will need the 2 diode modification I've posted before.

And an FYI for others with older bikes:
1989-2002 use a T-10 wedge base.
These T-10's can obtain non-polarized LEDs from Superbright. If you can't get a non-polarized for the turn signal indicator, use the 2 diode modification.

For everyone, the gauges all use T-10 base lamps.

Another FYI for newbies to LEDS: They are polarized. That is, they have a plus and a minus side. You won't damage it if you put it in backwards. If it doesn't come on, turn it around 180*.
