Is there any way to get a new sticker that has the VIN and manufacturing details on it? Mine is literally falling off the frame and I'm afraid if I lose it that I'll never be able to do anything with this bike legally. Am I screwed here, or is there a way?
there's a VIN engraved on the right side of the steer tube, no worries.
Thank god. The last thing I want is a bike I can't re-register come plates time
Do they ever look at the bike? As long as you have a title, Virginia doesn't give a shaZam!.
Right on it being stamped on the steering stem. people have to be careful when repainting a frame as that is the final word on the VIN because stickers can be swapped. The book "How to Paint Your Motorcycle" has cautions on that. It doesn't mention the sticker at all.
If falling off, and worried, to be sure never any problems, get super adhesive and glue it back on. I'd smear epoxy then press on and apply pressure for a day with straps and a stiff pad. Or check 3M - they make lots of good adhesives and sticky pads.
The black information part is physically separating from the adhesive which is still on the bike. It started bubbling a little while ago, then started peeling, so I figured I'd take it off and try to fix it off of the bike the re-apply... And as you can see, it doesn't like that idea

Well, that kills gluing it back on.
Just in case....... maybe laminate it in plastic and keep it if anyone ever did want to see it. I doubt it, though. The frame is the final determination of the VIN.
Seeing as that's the case, I'll probably just keep taking this off and see what I can save from it. Even if it's just the actual vin number. Thanks for the help guys!
