Title: engine assembly
Post by: jiggersplat on December 30, 2003, 08:00:27 PM
okay, some of you may remember my problem with the bent transmission shaft.  well, the bike has been sitting in a thousand pieces in teh garage for about three months now.  i finally got around to re-assembling it with the new (used) parts.

i find myself wondering about the c-clips that go on the ends of the transmission shafts.  is there only clip one for the big end of each shaft, or two?  i found an extra c-clip lying on the floor, and i have a feeling it's one that came with the replacement transmission shafts, and i looked at the schematics online and i only see one c-clip on the top half of the engine case for each shaft.  someone tell me i don't have to take the whole thing apart again.

thanks,

I think you mean the C shaped metal pieces that line up the shafts in the cases. There are only 2 (1 for each shaft). They fit in the grooves of the large bearing on each shaft. The small bearings are positioned by pins in the case.
The small pin sticking out of the side of the bearings should be located in the notches of the cases. This will line up all the oil passages and align the shafts.
I'm sure you have that figured out already or you wouldn't have been able to get the cases to fit together.
The extra C pieces were probably stuck in the grooves of new parts.
