So I did a good bit of riding over the weekend since we had some awesome weather. But one thing I always seem to get is a good bit of wind noise in my helmet.
It seems to be bad right around here the face shield attaches on both sides. When I looked at it, there is a rubber seal across the top and bottom of the helmet but it stops short on each side just before where it mechanically attaches to the helmet itself.
From the manufacturing stand point, I think they could have went a bit further with the seal but then again, its no Shoei.
I want to get a blue tooth adapter at some point but I need to be able to hear whats being said. IDK how wind resistant their mics are but I dont wanna drop $100 on a blue tooth module only to have it not work well due to wind noise.
So how does everyone else helmets stand up to wind noise?
Wind noise for me depends on the bike. I get less noise on the GS than my 919. But if I'm riding anywhere were the speed limit is 50mph or higher and I'm riding for longer than a few minutes, I always where ear plugs. It isn't that the noise is so loud that ear plugs are needed. Rather it's to reduce the numbing effect the constant wind drone will have on my ears over time. Side effect is, I have less fatiguing rides with ear plugs in. :thumb:
While a blue tooth connection to a phone could be nice, I enjoy the isolation of not being connected/contactable while on the bike. :thumb: :thumb:

I know what you mean. Some of my days are like that too but my business is run off my phone. Emails, texts and calls are my lifeline. Im doing some thread searching now to see if I can find anything. I thought about just getting a cheap set of those ear bud head phones with a min in line so i could have them in my ears that would act like ear plugs, I could still listen to music and take calls but I get leery about being tethered to a device.
Got a Shoei, got a whisper guard for it, improved the function of it to the point where I do not consider ear plugs necessary.
Also depends on the bike, the GS500 is naked and is louder than the half fairing Bandit.
How does the whisper guard work? Ive been wanting a Shoei.
I have a F with a sports touring zero gravity and if I lean forward enough to get behind it I have zero noise but I cannot lay forward like that all the time

It's a sleeve like thing that grips the bottom of the helmet and leaves a small opening for your head to go through...

You can get generic ones that go on various helmets.

Very interesting. Thats new to me but then again, a lot of things for bikes are
I know my issue is from around my visor sides though because when I took my left hand and cover it, the noise on that side was much less. I obviously could not do that with both hands....LOL
Maybe I will get some tape and go around the visor and see how quiet I can get it. Maybe a better quality helmet would help too
I wouldn't tape up the visor, you need some gaps for ventilation at least to stop your breath fogging the visor. Just get a good quality well fitting helmet.

No No No do not tape up your visor.

Yes save for a better helmet
I wasnt going to tape it up permanently. Just for a single ride to make sure thats the issue. My helmet has several vents anyway

Ohh
Go ahead then :thumb:
Are these whisper kits available on any helmets besides the shoei? I would like to get one for my HJC.
