This thing has been sitting in my garage now for too long and it's time to go. Came out of a 1990 GS500 and had a bent valve from a bad cam chain tensioner. Cam chain tensioner has been replaced along with most of the valves. I also replaced most gaskets, head gasket, base gasket, valve cover gasket. It still needs an oil pain gasket (leaks a little bit). It also needs a signal generator since I used the one from this engine in the other engine I put in the GS500. I'll take $150+shipping. I'll ship it in a Rubbermaid tub reinforced with styrofoam. You can also pick it up if you like. I'm in central PA.
I'm looking for a spare engine, how close is this to running if I put in a signal generator?
Should be good to go. I set the valve timing and cleaned up the valves and the ports when I put it all back together. Any valves that were bent were replaced, the others were cleaned up and re-lapped. Turns over easily. Like I said, it needs a new oil pan gasket and the signal generator. Other than that it should be good to go. I wasn't able to run it after it was all put back together since i don't have a GS anymore but they're pretty simple engines.
Interested. How much is shipping to 35404?
Depending on the exact weight should be in between $75 and $125. 75lbs is $75 and 150lbs is $125 on FedEx Ground.
and your absolutely certain the engine is in good mechanical order and runs? it basically sounds like you did a minor rebuild.
No, I am not absolutely certain that it runs since I've never had it running. I did do a minor rebuild. I did not replace bearings or rings. I don't have a GS500 to put it in to make it run and it also doesn't have a signal generator so it doesn't run without that either. If it were a complete running engine it would probably be more like $300 hence the price I have it listed for.
