Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a 1993 gs500. It's in great condition and runs like a dream. over the winter i wanted to install a new muffler on it(Most likely Vance and Hines), and put in a k&n drop in air filter. I know i need to rejet it as I have been lurking on the forums for a while but I do have a couple questions. I live at an elevation of about 300 ft. --Maryland-- (I googled it, hopefully I'm correct.). I've never done something like this before but between me and my brother we do have mechanical skill to do it I'm sure. Should i buy a Dyno stage 1 jetkit for it or are there others that are better?...Also..if anyone has a similar year bike that is jetted, what is your exact rejet settings?

Welcome to the forum Mr. Metalreeper!
First...a thing about Dyno jet kits. Some swear by them, some swear at them. Me? I swear at them. Save a ton of money, and look at the Wiki: http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Rejetting Buy genuine Mikuni jets, and it will be a lot cheaper, and better reference since Dynojets use a totally different size and part number identification system. There are also tutorials on how to do this yourself with pictures.
You can also private message The Buddha. He sells jet kits for your style carb cheap.
FYI...You have an older style carb with just a pilot and a main. 2001 added a mid-main for finer tuning.
Hi Jester, thanks for replying to me and sorry about taking a while to respond. College keeps me insanely busy. :( I would consider myself a noob mechanic but I think I got this. The main pilots for a 93' stock gs are #37.5 and they should be a #40 since the bike runs lean from the factory naturally. All i can afford right now is a K&N air filter and between looking all over the gs forum and (this post: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=12929.msg108864#msg108864) I am almost 100% certain i need:
1. #40 mikuni pilot http://www.amazon.com/Mikuni-Pilot-Jets-KN151-067-N151-067/dp/B000WJCFMK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1360617509&sr=8-4&keywords=mikuni+%2340+pilot
2. 127.5 main:

I want the large round main jets and not the small ones correct?
3. (2) #4-washers (hardware store)
4. 3 pilot screw turns when im installing. (Does that mean 3 turns in? or out from when its all the way in?)
Thats all. I'll probably be ordering the stuff when i get my tax returns so i got a little bit of time. Other than that, it looks pretty easy to install. Thanks for the help :)
My personal experience with Dynojet stuff that my bike came with was pretty bad. It took a lot of work to get it to run right (and it still wasn't great) and on top of that it reduced my fuel economy by about 10 mpg (fixed by putting stock slides and needles in). While accelerating, the large step in the needle and the slow slide response essentially made it bounce between lean and rich.
3 turns on the pilot screw means screw it in all the way until it seats (gently) and back it out 3 turns.
Hi, Badot
I'm going with Mikuni after I looked into it all some more, plus it's alot cheaper!
Thanks for clarifying about the whole 3 turns thing. :)
You want the large main, yes.
Check the wiki (wiki.gstwins.com) to be sure. I have a 2009, which takes the smaller jets.
I remember college. I didn't have a bike but I had a 1989 honda accord with flip up lights. That thing always needed something...but it kept my beer money flowing...
