Howdy all, I have noticed a problem on my "new" '96 GS500E.
She starts with a minor blip of throttle and plenty of choke, runs until warm, but then won't idle properly once warm. Choke helps nothing, whether on or off or halfway.
She stalls whenever I hit the clutch to come to a stop unless I give'er a little throttle.
Could it be just the idle mixture screw or does this sound like something else entirely?
Try turning idle screw in?
You could try adjusting the idle while its warm. Idle screw is easy to spot, right under the carbs cost to the engine than the air box
I'll try that after breakfast and see how it goes. Thanks guys
Wow. I had to turn the idle mix screw at least 50x to get the idle speed to budge, that thing was all the way out.
Now she idles properly and I can actually take off the choke completely!
Thanks guys!
Yay! Glad we can help. Love fixes problems with pesky bikes when all you wanna do is ride. :thumb:
Valve clearance can cause similar issues too FYI.
Glad you got it sorted out!
