Title: Gas tank leak
Post by: zakkius on January 11, 2013, 11:25:38 PM
Hi everyone. I found a small leak that is coming from the middle section of the tank on the left side underneath the rubber frame seal. It is a slow leak but for sure coming from the tank. I bought the bike from a friend who had a leak problem on the highway and he sent it to a shop and they put a sealant in the tank. However, looking in the tank, I see bubbly looking raises in the bottom of the tank (could be a little rust?). I'm thinking that it was just a shoddy job by the shop worker.

On the bright side, I ordered a reseal kit by the Eastwood Company as instructed by dad. So I hope that would do the trick. But anyway I'm posting this to get a bit of insight if available.

Thanks in advance.

If it were mine, I would be looking for a good replacement tank

I repaired mine with solder then epoxy over it. It's still holding (touch wood). It's quite a job but it can be done.

I have looked into getting a replacement tank, but it is over 400 dollars and I think it would be an easy enough fix. I'd love to replace it outright, but it's expensive.

You can always find tanks for less than 400. Check out the Classifieds section now as there are 2 or 3 bikes being parted out now
