Title: Just bought a gs500
Post by: crackpot on January 03, 2004, 02:48:19 PM
Hey There Fellas.  I just bought a gs500 (supposed to be the best starter-bike) and was wondering how much the bike is actually worth.  Just to satisfy my curiosity.  The bike is posted on this site, it's about 3/4 of the way down of the Wanted board and it's listed by javio1 (in case you want to take a look at it).  This is what it has: 1990, 16k, adjustable gsxr shock, bigger rear wheel, 15 sprocket, V&H, K&N, and some other minor visual upgrades like smaller rear blinkers and a fenderectomy.  Looks good, no real flaws, but am just curious about the price.  I paid 1300--what do you think?  Thanks.  And by the way, really nice site. :thumb:

Welcome!

I'm not an expert on pricing of the GS, but for comparison sake, I paid $900 for a 92 Stock with minor flaws (paint, scratches, etc)

Again welcome to the site and good luck with the GS.

Lane

that's about right for a modded gs...i paid 1000 USD for my 92 with 6800 miles...the bike ran shity so i pulled the carbs and the tank...the gas was very dirty and now i'm hoping that's the reason it ran bad...

welcome

That was a pretty good price considering the mods and condition of his bike.

hey, you guys are alright.  thanks for the feedback.  at least i don't feel like a total sucker. (though i still may be one). i'll be inheriting quite a few parts when i take delivery of the bike, so keep an out on the wanted-board for stuff like exhaust, wheels, and blinkers.

People talk about being ripped off and made a sucker but the bottom line is nothing has inherent value of itself.  It is worth what it's worth to YOU, and if that's more than what someone else would pay that doesn't mean you're a sucker.  Welcome to the GS500.  Surf this site, including all the other parts of it, and learn to know your bike.  Enjoy yourself and don't take the poor little thing too seriously.  Good luck.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase.  The GS will go anywhere but deep mud and soft/wet grass

I paid 1075.00 for a 89', 28000 miles with a V&H exhaust and a k&N filter, but it hardly ran and was dumped pretty bad, needs new tires. Sounds like I got ripped.
