Title: Castrol 4T Motorcycle Oil Question
Post by: Zethioth on January 14, 2013, 11:20:18 PM
So while browsing the small selection of motorcycle oil, I ended up picking out the Castrol 4T 4 Stroke Motorcycle Oil 10W-40.

It wasn't until I look again today that I noticed all the other oils clearly mentioned on the bottle that they are for wet clutches, that is no where to be found on the Castrol oil I used!  :icon_eek:

I've only had the oil in for a few days, honestly, I don't think it makes a difference. I was just wondering if I should be worried or not.

Here's a Link to the Oil's Page (http://www.castrol.com/castrol/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=9040439&contentId=7040925)

My own research brought up a post about someone who contacted Castrol and they said that the oil was indeed designed for use in wet clutch systems. They could say anything though to get you to buy their products...  :technical:

as long as there are no friction modifiers in it you should be fine. I use car oil in mine. Same stuff, just marketing.

You should be fine but as gsatterw says as long as there are no friction modifiers in it you are ok.

All 10W-40 typically does not have friction modifiers.

Any name brand 10W-40 is OK.  AVOID Wal-Mart and cheap branded oils.  They tend to have ash and other crap in them that I would not put in a lawn mower.

Again, our engines went through one major overhaul in the 1980s and were left alone after that.  That's 25 or so years ago.  Technology and oil have come a long way since then.  If you are nervous, use genuine Suzuki 10W-40 oil.  Otherwise, what you are using more than exceeds the manufacturer specifications.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to double check. Oil has so many "specifications" and "approved by ----" that it's hard to keep up with what it all means.   :dunno_black:

Nobody else noticed he typed "litre" instead of "liter"?

I know that's how they spell it in many other countries.

The syrup kind, the powder kind, or the meth kind?  :D

Ah, well around where I live that specific slang is more commonly used for it than for the milk flavoring. The milk flavoring does come in power or syrup form now though.
