Title: No longer for sale----Anyone need GSXR Key Blanks?
Post by: jestercinti on January 15, 2013, 07:57:38 PM
No longer for sale. Found out that they will work. Taking to key master later this week.

Ordered 2 key blanks from eBay. Obviously for a GSXR NOT a GS500.  GS500 key on right for reference. These probably fit a later model GSXR. Not OEM, but aftermarket. Just pay a few bucks shipping. Click on image for larger version.

By the look, they match my GS500 keys. Did you see if they go in the lock?
I thought Suzuki had only one key blank for all recent bikes. Mine look same 1989 to 2009.

Fits in the key socket on the bike but sticks WAY up.

I'll be in the neighborhood of my local dealer tomorrow. I'll take the key and the code to see what they say. Initially I was bummed because the silver key metal in the blanks are 2mm longer than the OEM key. Might be hard to show in the photo.

Thanks Adidas...I'll know more tomorrow.

I have short and long keys. Long ones work - they just stick up higher.
A key cutter could shorten it if you want.

As a qualified key cutter I can tell you 100% they are fine. They can be shortened if it really bugs you. This can be done at any reputable store.

After work today, I'm going by the dealer to see if they can cut them using the code that came from my original key.

Thanks guys, I'm a certified idiot when it comes to keys.  Hell, if it says 'do not duplicate' on it, I don't duplicate it.

I almost bought the same keys (black) from ebay. My local Sears has a "Key Hut" and the guy will shave them down for me to match the key that came with my bike. Cost $4 for the pair cut.

My local locksmith has some type of generic blank that fits the gs500, has "X241 SUZ18" on it, by Ilco. Costs me like 2 bucks per copy made (I have 3-4 copies, distributed to trusted people, and 2 copies at home... I'm known for losing my keys)  :dunno_black:

Ok. So today I went to my dealer who said they do not cut keys, but they gave me the name of a key master nearby. Going there this week to get duplicated.

Therefore, no longer for sale.

UPDATE:  Had these cut by a professional.  They work just fine.

I am told that the length of the "stop" in the key, meaning the point where the key gets narrow/wider is the important factor.

Since they were similar, it was no problem.
