Hey - this is my first post! I purchased my GS500 from a friend, it has its issues... one being a rusted and leaking fuel tank. I use my bike daily so I needed a fast fix! the solution was a tank from a 2007 GS500F that had been written off and scrapped for parts, the tank was dented but not rusty... I fitted it today.
Everything lines up, the side fairings do normally bolt to the tank however but they appear quite stable without the additional bolts. The fuel filler and tank petcock are both interchangeable
As I do more work to the bike I will post up what I learn
Here are some comparison pics:

Welcome to the forum.
Great start :thumb:
Awesome job!
When I first found out only two bolts held the tank on I was pretty surprised and worried at the same time.
Looks good.
You will want to fabricate some brackets for the front tab of the plastics. They will tend to flap at highway speeds. You need to keep the front end of them secure.
FYI: no fitment issues at all - bike is now sold, I liked it so much I now have a 2011 GS500 *.*
I wanna see the new bike now 8)
