Title: Checking in
Post by: MikeNW on January 17, 2013, 11:00:57 AM
Hello good people,
Hope you're all doing well.  I haven't been on this site for a long time, for a while I was looking for a GS500 but couldn't find any within a comfortable radius of me.  And which were in good condition.
Too bad, it looks like a good bike too.  I couldn't even find one to test ride.
What's worse is that Suzuki, like all dealers, pushed ts customers UP an into more $$$$ bikes during the great recession.  Good bye "medium sized" economical scoots.
Oh- after 4 long, bike-less years, I bought a gently-used Burgman 400.  "Get over it- it's a scooter"   which is a blast to ride.  And gets 60-70 mpg.  Rubber band drive!  I would rather have the 500 cc parallel twin but Suzuki did their homework with this little 400.  It will do 100 mph!

Love peace and happiness and all that other stuff.  Ride safe y'all.

I test rode the Burgman 650 last year, what a great bike! The 650 is just half a Hayabusa engine. I hear the 400 is just as quick but you don't have those cool folding mirrors  :D

I would consider a Burgman for my next bike but the maintenance seems more cumbersome than the GS and they don't seem to last as long. But what do I know? Prove me wrong.

Burgman 650 is really stinkin fast.  BUT extremely complex, lots of electronic thingies.  AND maintenance headache, for example the drive belt is buried.
Burger 400 is simple.  I can R&R the rubber band in half hour.  That is a common task, to clean out belt dust and clean the variator.  But no big deal, it's at the back of the drive train.  Not quite as quick as 650 (I rode both) but will still smoke most cars out there.  I love cracking the throttle on the highway and keeping up with sports cars, smile as I pull away  :icon_mrgreen:
Most other chores require removing tupperware.  Oh well, you have to be in a mellow mood.  It's not a big deal.  8)
Ride safe and watch for the idiots (that is most of the cagers...)
