Title: Rear blinker placement

Hey everybody!

Has anyone ever tried to drill a hole in the rear 89 gs fairings to put the blinkers in? I feel like this would be a good place to put the blinkers so that you could totally eliminate that damn mud flap fender. I'm thinking about doing it but I am curious as to what you guys think.

I cut my rear fender so short you cant see it. I turned the license plate bracket up-side down and with that little was left of the fender, I drilled a hole on each side and ran my after market turns through that.

Ya thats what I was thinking of doing, but it could be kind of cool and original to wire em through the fairings. What did reversing your license plate bracket do?

Flipping it allowed me to mount it higher and cut the fender shorter

I don't use the license plate thingy. I mount directly to the fender.

Don't mount turn signals to the plastics unless they are flush ones. If they get bumped, the tail plastics will break. Tail plastics are a stiff abs plastic, not a soft plastic like the rear fender.

I have a few cut fenders that will go into the dumpster next week. (Recycling bin already full for this week). Take them if you want. I don't use used fenders anymore unless they are perfect. At $42 for a new rear fender, no need to deal with used ones. My preference is for un-cut rear fenders.

No reason to cut the fender any shorter than the license plate and somehow you must have a rear red reflector to be legal in all states. Just below the license plate works. You can use reflective license plate bolts.

Remember rear turn signals must be the same height from the ground and be a minimum of 9" apart.

read up on the requirements. While a LEO probably will not pull you over just for reflectors or turn signals, if you are driving like a squid they can use it as a reason to pull you over and make your life miserable. If speeding or doing stunts and they pull you over, non-compliance with the WA vehicle code just adds to the violations they hit  you with.

Remember that reflectors, etc. are all a part of being visible so THEY don't run you over. Seems the younger a rider, the less reflectors and turn signals they want and only care about being "cool" and nothing about being visible on the road. The older you get, you want more visibility. You know you're old when you start wearing orange reflective vests.  :icon_lol:

Hahaha. I know my other bike has reflective nuts on the license plate. And that's a good point about the stiff tail plastics. I think I'll do what weedahoe was saying and just cut it as short as possible. Went for another ride today, bike ran good.

By the way, if you wanted to set one of those cut fenders off to the side with the side reflectors (if they have them) for when we finally meet I would appreciate that haha. The guy who cut mine apparently messed up and hes tried to tie his mess up together with wire. Looks pretty bad.
