Title: Start school tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Post by: john on January 04, 2004, 09:17:50 PM
Next two weeks I'm doing two crash courses comp & Lit and Early Western Civilization -each class is 4 hrs 8-12 and 1-5 on m/f.  Intense and rigorous to be sure.  I have my notebook, some pens, my class books and my brain  :thumb:

This is gonna be interesting to be sure   Don't expect to see me around except to ask for voluntiers to proof read my papers :o

...and so begins the next chapter in my life titled "What the hell am I doing and how did I get here!?"

Don't forget to paint pupils on the outsides of your eyelids... that way if you fall asleep in class, your prof will never know.... buahahaha!!!

Good luck with school!!!  :thumb:

Drexel is on the quarter system which is kind of like the atkins diet of college. Our terms are 11 weeks but there's 4 a year.

Good luck, John!

After the No-Doz stops working, try crushing the No-Doz and snorting it and taking a half-dose of Nyquil...wheeeee, on with the silly questions!

Good luck man!  My trick to stay awake in classes is sitting in the front rows.  Also if you have questions, ASK THEM!  Most teachers love that :)  (especially if they are good questions).  It also shows some interest in the material and that you have been listening and thinking about the lecture.  I find it also helps me stay tuned in to the class when I ask questions.  I'm not going to say I have ADD but some classes I have to really try to keep my mind from wandering.

Show up a couple times at their office hours if possible.  If you do all the homework, putting a face to the name can help immensly with your grades.

Also, if they are answering your questions they don't have time to ask you any!!
And I thought med school was busy!
The best way to survive post-secondary schooling is to treat it as a job- work hard while you are there and relax when you're not, respect it as if you are being paid to be there (rather than the other way around), and remember it's not your whole life.  Good luck.  :thumb:

Day 1:

I barely survived.  I will be up every night writing papers and/or working on my term paper.  I will have no life.

NoDoze or coffee will be necessary  :thumb:

My comp & Lit teacher is HOT    I might offer sexual favors for extra credit if I have trouble  :o  jk

Hey,

Hint for Early Western Civilization:  If you can get past the epic of Gilgamesh (today or tomorrow?), you have it whipped.  Most of it's pretty interesting, if you keep the perspective of making parallels with modern life.  The Florentine Renaissance was coool...  8)

Hint for Writing class:  Let the missus proofread if possible.  It helps tremendously to have a second set of eyes evaluate your work.  If that isn't possible, take a break and reread it again in an hour or two.  :thumb:

I let discretion take a back seat in my relationship with an instructor once.  I strongly advise against it.  I also went out a few times with a different instructor, only after I was finished with the class.  I won't do that again either.  :P

I've found that it also helps if I read it out loud.  It may seem wierd but it works when you speak the words.  If I am proofreading my own work, I tend to just read through errors not noticing them if I read silently.  Also helps to print a draft copy.  It seems no matter how much I read something on a screen I still find an error when I print it up :)

also to stay awake I have a radio the size of a stack of 7-9 quarters and runs of hearing aid batteries.  Two wires conect to the speakers smaller in diameter than a dime.  Teachers can't see 'em and classmates can't hear anything.  It's not that they're quiet but they fit IN your ear.  Don't know where you can get 'em though.
