Title: Installed DL650 (VStrom) hand guards
Post by: Zwerski on January 28, 2013, 11:05:07 PM
I wanted to do something to take the wind off my hands during cold rides. I poked around and found out that at least one other person had installed VStrom hand guards on their GS500 a long time ago on this forum. Being from another Suzuki product, I figured I'd have at least a small chance of them fitting. If they were way off, I could return them to Amazon. So, I burned the rest of my Christmas Amazon gift cards  on them. They were $60 plus $6 shipping from Amazon, and came in a kit with mounting hardware - handlebar spacers, new brake and clutch pivot pins, and associated washers and nuts - and directions. The kit is intended to be used with the open ended bars, and comes with some long-ass internal bolts and rubber plungers to use in hollow bars, but I had longer M6 bolts around from my bar end weights. You might need to get different bolts.

Here they are on the bike. A little Mega Force looking, but they are for function, not form:

I had to bust out the Dremel and make some changes to the guards, since the DL650's controls are a little different. The new clutch cable boot came with the kit.

Some space had to be made to allow the lower nut on the brake to move freely:

The spacers were included and are intended to be used along with bar end weights

A shot of the clutch side from the riding position. The guards use the levers' pivot pins to mount onto, so any change to the angle of the levers lets the guards to change along with them.

Thanks Dude.  May try these, or use the Polisport that I saw in the Wiki.

You bet.

I was going to try the Polisport ones, but could not find them, A search for "Suzuki hand guards" came up with these. Also, the link to the original GSTwins post from 2005:
