Addidasguy -->
QuoteI offered to host it on my company servers for free a number of times but never even a "no thank you" so I guess there never will be one. I've stopped offering.
I could set one up but you would have to log in separately to access it since it would be separate from GStwins. It would be nice to link into gstwins but I don't think he would allow that, considering my offer to just host the photo gallery went to deaf ears.
Well I have exhausted research on an external photo host. SMF doesn't have the capability built in to attach to an external photo host. There are mods to work with external photo hosts, but I have no clue how they could be twisted to work with a personally created photo host.
We could:
- continue without photo hosting
- let addidasguy or other really smart people look in to getting SMF & external pic hosting to work.
- find a new host and pray the transition goes smoothly (I would need serious help with this)
- See if addidasguy wants to create a photo gallery with its own login as he mentioned above. Maybe just approve forum users externally.
The last item is the quickest way. The negative would be he would have to approve users to make sure they exist here, and they would have separate accounts.
If he is willing to allow photos to be hosted, perhaps the time has come to do
something. He offered this possibility a couple months ago to me, I could not see a way to integrate it. But do we need seamless integration anyway? I mean a sticky or something that says where & how you can upload photos and where to go would probably work.
He has offered many times over. How can we leverage this? Thoughts? Ideas?
And yes addidasguy. Thank you for the offer. I think the time has come to get your input on this idea and see if you are still interested. I am putting it here so others can perhaps offer some thoughts.
Why can't it be like the wiki where everyone has access or even the GS500 Facebook Page that has gallery access.
Not saying Addidas idea isn't good because it is very nice of him to offer - many - times
Why not just create a photobucket account and allow anyone to upload pics to it? That way, John, it is still your Gallery, and others can add their own stuff to it. In short, use the image hosting websites that already exist to host images.

If it were me, id take adidas up on his offer. If that is a no go. what mister said works too. we can transfer the gallery images to PB. hell ive got almost 700 images on my free one. we can use a free pb acct while getting adidas' or other plan moving. and save us some storage space as well
In the mean time as well FIX TAPATALK!!!!!!!! If you get that working the people on the smartphones can have tapatalk hosted image upload which is what I at least want.
I'm new here, but +1 on Tapatalk - makes it so much easier to keep up to date!
For what its worth, when I was setting up a photo site, I also looked at message board software.
What we use on this board is somewhat old. There is a vastly updated version of board software that supports tap and all the other newer stuff. The latest board softwares can import our existing board, making it a seamless transition to the latest and greatest.
Remembering I never even received a polite "No thank you" to offers of setting up a photo board for free, I dropped the idea and did no further investigations into message board software.
I had a photo gallery all set up but now I don't remember what site I used for it. I'll have to check at my office when I get a chance. I thought it was gs500f.com, suzuki-gs500.com or gs500club.com, but those aren't it.
The issue with using photobucket is it will cost money. You have limited storage and bandwidth in a free account.
Its that way I believe with all free sites.
doall these phones usibng tap, not support url entry?
Seems I was setting it up under gs500.net
(I own a lot of GS500 web names!)
I guess right now it is set so anyone can register so try that and see what happens.
Seems its sending emails is broken. I'll let you know when it is fixed so you can register.

No - just something easy to remember. I don't intend to do a message board (though one goes along as baggage with the photo board but I will shut off the message board part.) I do own quite a few GS500 web addresses.
Though if the message board is liked, I can just transfer it over to John and he can run the whole thing from my servers for free. Made that offer a few times and also never heard a "no thank you". I have pretty much unlimited server capacity and high speed.
I'll let you know when I get the photo board registration fixed as it is not sending out emails right now. Then ytou can play with it and see if you like it.
I was only trying to give back a photo gallery to replace what went away and there was no interest. If there is interest now, maybe we can make it happen.

Who wants to write up instructions on how to use and link to photos?

For now as long as you don't mind, I see nothing wrong with you offering image hosting for gs500 owners as long as you don't mind. It keeps this board fairly snappy, and allows people to upload and link photos. I was really hoping there was a way to integrate with coppermine or some other photo software remotely, but SMF is not up to that task. In fact the SMF boards have many people asking about its possibility, and most people respond with surprise that people would ever want such a feature/mod :technical:
Reality is, I have not been involved other than paying the bills for a few years. I had many bad things happen, and just did not want to think about it, so I left the board in capable hands. They did what they had to do to keep things going, and without them this board would have disappeared long ago. But now for the first time in a long while life has settled into a normal rhythm over the last 6 months -which is a good thing. Now I have been able to take up a role that I haven't for like 4 years.
I am sorry I did not get back to you about image hosting integration. I did research it, and then forgot to get back to you, then forgot about it completely. That does not mean I did not think it was a good idea, or a heck of an offer for members here. :kiss3: Consider yourself thanked.
I did try to register, then saw about the email. Oh well.
My only question is should I create a subdomain and just forward to gs500.net, or just link directly to it? Or, because of google searches and stuff, do you want some other creative way to link to it. My concern for you is it becoming a three headed monster where people sign up because they heard there was free image hosting on your site.
Let me get the photo board back in operation.
Lance in my office handles all of the web integration. I'll talk to him Monday. I forget what all he was saying about integration when I started to get things working.
Since there is the interest now, give me a few days to get everything back working.
Then I'll probably need Lance to call you and discuss what can be done for the easiest integration between gstwins.com and the photo gallery.
If your member ID's is in some database that can be remotely accessed, we might be able to access that and automatically register people. Or maybe a once a week or once a month push of a member ID to us or a web service so when you register someone, you push that info to us. Possibly a link from gstwins that also under the hood pushes the member ID so it appears seamless.
If you can PM me an email and maybe a phone number so Lance can contact you in a more direct way, we should be able to get things going pretty fast. Right now is out slow season in the bowling software business so we have some spare time to devote to pet projects (cats & bikes).
Another possibility might be a web service where we ask gstwins if a member ID and password is correct. Then they can use the same and don't have to register on the photo gallery. Then as mentioned, a link of gstwins could go to gs500.net with a parameter of user ID and something so we know it came from a gstwins link and then that user ID has automatic access.
Just things to think about. There are lots of ways to integrate the two sites.
See that's the thing. There is an issue with SMF going outside. Not sure about remote mysql connections into the DB. :dunno_black:
Well, if you know who clicks on a link (user or guest) then that could be passed as a parameter in the link to the gallery. Then the gallery would know if a registered user (who can upload pictures) or a guest (who can only view).
anyway, Monday I'll get the gallery registrations working. I forgot they got turned off until I had it up and running. I'll turn it on so people can play with it for a week and get some feedback.
We're gonna reload the ap on the server. So in a couple days we will have it back and you guys can test it out.
We are looking at what can be done for the easiest integration. Not sure if we can do it to eliminate duplicate registration. We will try. More to come later.

Its down now. Waiting a day for it to disappear from all the web lookup tables.
Then we bring it back up on a different server and it takes a day to propagate around.

no worries my friend. we'll all be here.
This is all Greek to me, but it sounds promising.
EDIT IMPORTANT: Putting on my Audit and compliance hat here (I do that for a living). Adidas, I'm sure you have rock solid privacy policy for your business websites. I'd use one for image hosting for sure. Also, if there are images hosted of tard farm stuff...and even harmless children identified...this could be a legal and 50 state compliance issue for the hosted provider (you/GSTwin). Something to consider.
I have a generic one if you need it for a website that I have for a not-for-profit business professional organization. Might fit this application.

Try it.
That's it the only member is adidasguy and there's a link back here.
http://gs500.net/
You signed up but haven't acknowledged the email to confirm your account
I have to have forums - it comes along with the gallery software HOWEVER i have linked them back to GStwins.com
The only forum on my gallery that stays there is the one for gallery questions.
Ok, signed up. One problem. Where's LPW? :bs:
Remember to check your email to confirm the registration! After you do that, I grant permissions for uploading photos (yes - I am GOD! bwahaaa haaaa haaaaa!)
So I can't post like on this forum? Just post pretty pictures?

Ugley pictures and self portraits are allowed as well as pretty pictures.
The site is for a free place to post unlimited photos. It is not there to compete with gsTwins. I suppose, though, if it were then I could ban Sledge or limit his posts to 25 words or less. Heck, I'm not even a moderator here - just a babbling parts whore. Why would I want to moderate a forum?
REMEMBER TO REPLY TO YOUR EMAIL TO GET PERMISSION TO UPLOAD!After you validate your account, I will approve you for uploading. It is a closed gallery. Only members of gstwins and those I approve will be able to upload.
Notice the link in the picture below. If you click the link then copy and paste into your gstwins message, it inserts the picture AND a link to the gallery.

Got chain guards.
I will have it working later tonight or tomorrow. There's no reason it isn't working. Must be something simple I'm not seeing.
