Hey all,
I just picked up a 1990 GS500, my first bike, and have been having an absolute blast learning to ride. However, I'm pretty sure the bike needs some loving, and as part of that I've decided to dig into the carbs this weekend. It's probably been a long time since anyone got in there, and so I'm worried that the softer parts are going to need replacing. I've tried searching around a little, but since I'm so new to the bike and motorcycling in general, I thought I would appeal for help in identifying exactly what parts I'll need. I'd rather have new parts ready to go as I tear the bike down, instead of having to go searching for them while the bike is in pieces. All the carb kits I've seen online for 89-93 GS's are sold out (probably years ago!), so any suggestions would be really welcome. Thanks!
Brian
I think, but not sure, that the 1990 carbs you have are the same on all models until 2000. again not sure, better wait for the more knowledgeable folk
I would recommend getting OEM replacement carb parts instead of the kits anyway. They can be had at many online dealerships including ronayers.com .
Welcome. You will find the people here a friendly yet simple folk. Many will seem a bit "off," but are savants when it comes to GS help.
Enjoy it here. You will learn a LOT.
89-2000 carbs are the same.
2001-2009 float bowls and jets the same. They added all kinds of emissions crap and TPS in 2004 but basic parts of the carbs are the same.
Parts places often break apart years because Suzuki did that in their parts lists.
Fortunately, people here know all about parts compatibility. That's why I have a 1993 bike made from parts 1989 through 2009 then a 2012 aftermarket Motad exhaust (and all exhausts for GS500 mount exactly the same so poo poo the year designation).
Welcome to the site!
