:dunno:  has anyone got any idea on carb upgrade for the gs ?
have acsses to delorto carbs but have been told that they would be hard to set-up & would tend to run uneven for road use.

A guy at one of my local shops used half a bank of GSXR carbs...I believe they were 36mm Mikuni's instead of the stock 34's. Don't quote me on that though.

Most people, even the racers, find rejetting the stock carbs is perfectly adequate.  I found the Australian version (at least in the 2001) was so restricted in the pipe and filter that I could not get it to run properly when I changed the filter for a Uni in the airbox and rejetted according to everyone's (read- Srinath's) recommendations, until I replaced the pipe as well.  Now it runs like a dream, has more power, no flat spot in the midrange, and gets the same mileage as stock.
Using different carbs is a real Pandora's box unless you have access to someone with a lot of experience with both that bike and those carbs and preferably a dyno.  I reckon you'd run into bulk dollars without any real gains in performance, not to mention the frustration.  Good luck anyway.

Removing the balance tube will hurt performance. The tube equalizes exhaust pulses. Where in the system the crossover is also affects where the power comes on. Of course it's a lot more complicated than that, but I'm not an engineer and that's the general idea.
