Sold my black GS today and its been replaced with a 2003 Kawasaki Z1000. Still got another GS in the garage thats having some issues though.
Already got some plans going for this bike but figured I would ask here for some advice and collaborate. Really need some mirrors the ones on here rattle loose and spin towards me from the wind at any type of "real" speed.

Thats one sexy piece of machinery. I bet it sounds amazing. As for the mirrors, I always suggest bar ends, simply the best! :)

GS vs Z review???
+1
A Z1000 is a serious contender for replacing my GS when the time comes. I'd love to hear how it does on gas, performance, and general riding compared to the GS and if you like it more than the GS.
Super Fast, Looks nice...But for soem reason im not a fan of Kawi. Enjoy the bike and the power!
Quick and dirty review.
At first the z1000 made my ass hurt, but then again after buying it I didn't get off it but to get gas for about 6 hours. Was having that much fun on it. Its a very well balanced and well made bike even after all these years. [its a 2003] Passenger wise, my GF says it sucks ass to ride on the back compared to the GS, but I noticed she bonks heads with me a lot less.
As far as wind and stuff when I sit straight up at speeds above like 50, my body becomes like a parachute almost, that really sucks so any freeway riding i typically lay on the tank which is actually quite comfortable.
This bike has a really wide RPM range compared to the GS so I do alot less shifting in town, can usually keep it in first or second between lights. I would just do first but it gets a little jerky near 50 with barely any throttle in first.
MPG that I have recorded is about 2.5 gallons for 100 miles. 10$-100 miles. Not as good as the GS but still beats the crud out of any full size vehicle. I am also sure this is depending on how its driven and I have been seeing a lot of redline being I just got it and its really fun. So maybe on a simple commute it would be better.
Tires. It has a HUGE back tire and a decent size front. Not really looking forward to replacing that back tire. Honestly though i haven't even cleaned the chain yet. I should probably do an oil change and fluid check also. I feel alot more comfortable on these big tires tho.
The forks and suspension is so nice compared to my GS. No more falling forward when I apply the front brake and my stopping power is alot better. I have more confidence in turns at higher speeds on the z1000.
The only thing I miss about my GS is probably the windshield and large seat at this point. Also how much more relaxing of a ride the gs500 is, i almost feel like I have to speed on the 1000. Plus i had my phone mounted on my GS and could call people and chat and listen to music.
I am glad to have passed on my old GS to another first time rider. I hope he learns from it as much as i did about riding.
I took a 15 minute video of me riding my z1000 to my grandparents with my gf but it doesnt wanna upload so I will try again tommorrow maybe the file size is too big. I will at least get a walk-around video and some sounds of the exhaust for you guys tommorrow after work.
:tongue2: Where do you put that pink block of cement while you're riding?
Is there a storage place for it or do you carry it in a backpack? :tongue2:

Let me be the first one to say it sounds amazing since all these others bash on kawis for some reason haha. I wish I had my hands on a bike like that. Cept for the gas mileage of course ;)
Sounds like a beast, literally! Love it :kiss3

Trying out power wheelies, Wont let me clutch up the front wheel for some reason. Like it has a limiter or something.
Really need to figure out this mirror situation though. Hate only having one, also only my high beams work. Was looking at doing something like those CFL eyes they have on fleabay. Just cant justify spending 450$ on a bike with a big dent in the tank haha.
This is what I am talking about

Wonder if I could do that myself cheaper. Any electricians on here know how to do that?
If you like end bar mirrors like me, here's some on ebay for super cheap. As long as you don't drop your bike you'll be fine. These are the one's I have on my bike. I like the style of them.
